I'm not sure if you'll find this at the Chinese places around your way (as again, the dish is primarily an American interpretation) but I usually go with the General Tso's chicken. It's crispy, deep-fried nuggets of chicken in a sweet and spicy sauce (usually made from a mixture of garlic, ginger, soy sauce, red chile peppers, scallions, sugar, and some kind of vinegar). Not exactly the fanciest, most exotic dish in the world, but it gets the job done just about every time.
