It's so many things, and completely wonderful at all of them.
I also love how little chunks of dialogue can often hint at things to come episodes, if not seasons, later. It's as if every little detail was carefully mapped out before they ever rolled the first bit of film. Even things such as a movie playing on a television set in the background can foreshadow a future dynamic or plot development, without so much as drawing any attention to itself. Texture like that is rare, but Gilligan & Co. weave that stuff into their narrative fabric on a weekly basis. It's cray cray.
