So, they have announced that we will be getting a Tournament to crown a new WHC for Impact after Dixie Land made the title vacant. For those who have yet to see, here is the current bracket;
I am a fan of Tournaments when they are done right. King of the Ring was always a fun one for me to watch back in the day. This Tournament will be a bit different that KOTR though. From what I can figure, they will have 2 routes that they can take:
- If they do it in a 1 per week span, we can see this thing stretched out for 7 weeks, meaning that on December 19th, we will see the winner crowned. With Impact moving back to Orlando and being taped, I have a feeling that Spoilers are going to ruin this for me, but with the names in this list there is a high potential for some great matches. With the Wheel of Dixie added to this, it would be interesting to see at least 1 gimmick match per episode, and the Turning Point Special could see a potential Match of the Year candidate in Aries vs. Angle. If they were to announce another Impact Live Event for December 19th, this will be how the tournament concludes and a new WHC is crowned.
- November 21st is the Live Turning Point special, which is when you would normally expect to see something like this conclude. They could potentially get to this point much easier than we think; which is one of the more appealing aspects of an 8 man Tourney. We already have Sabin vs. Hard in a Full Metal Mayhem announced for this Thursday. If this match opens the show, we could see another 3 Spins on the Wheel of Dixie and another 3 Tourney matches to move into the Semi-Finals for next week. Having the Semi-Finals conclude next week will see Turning Point as the moment where the new WHC is crowned. With Heel Dixie being motivated to get the fans to move on from AJ, the sooner the Tournament concludes, the fast she has her new champion. But would it be smart to have 4 gimmick matches on one Live Impact (6 matches for the Ohio crowd)? Either way, Ohio fans are in for a treat this week.
Which route would you take; the long road or the short cut? What matches are you looking forward to in this tournament? Do you have a favorite to win in your mind versus who you think TNA will pick?
For me, I am most excited for Angle/Aries. That match has been one I have wanted to see for a while and I think both will deliver. I see Angle being put on the sidelines for his surgery after Aries delivers the Brainbuster. If I had my way, Aries would be the guy who took this tournament and we would see Styles return for the unification match between two men who are even with at 1-1... However, I think this Tournament will be Magnus' Turning Point to change heel and be Dixie's chosen champ. But that's just me.
