But, yeah, I think they're both brilliant. Vol. 1 might even be my favorite thing Tarantino has ever done.
I think Kill Bill is my second Tarantino favorite after Pulp Fiction.
Vol. 3 is going to be his next film after Django or so he says.

Strangely enough, Pulp Fiction is actually at the lower end of the spectrum of my favorite Tarantino works. No doubt still a great movie, but I think Inglorious and the two Bills have him working as a master of his craft whereas some of his earlier stuff still has him in search of his filmic voice, as it were. Pulp Fiction and Reservoir Dogs were mainly notably for their exceptional screenplays, but the later stuff is a guy firing on absolutely all cylinders.

That's due to the non-horror subject matter largely. I still haven't seen The Mist, I'll have to get to that. Admittedly I have never watched The Shining all in one sitting. I'm a bit meh about Kubrick myself. It's elitist film making for the margins, I believe. Of course, Misery was good. But the books are so reliant on the minds eye, that movies are just a let down. You can't possibly fit it all in.
Just came from a Kubrick exhibit now I'm excited to watch Clockwork Orange, and The Shining. He's one of the all time great.

loved Clockwork, I think it's a movie not enough people have seen

As far as Tarantino movies, a movie that hasn't been mentioned yet that is high on my list is Death Proof, but here is my list

    Inglorious Bastards
    Pulp Fiction
    Reservoir Dog
    Death Proof
Kill Bill 1 (not to keen on this series)

For mine, I think Tarantino really stepped up his game with Inglourious Basterds. It was a return to a realism not seen since Reservoir Dogs or Jackie Brown. Sure, his other films are good but they're more cartoony - they exist in an inflated, coloured in, fanciful idea of reality. Smoother edges, softer lines - the grit and dirt seems to have been cleaned and polished to a fine sheen. It's like a celluloid graphic novel. I guess Tarantino's appeal for me is like Tim Burton - I like his stuff but I like it better when he diversifies.
