I thought RAW on the whole was decent, but if there ever was one show that shows both the best of what the writers have to offer and the worst of what the writers have to offer... this show has to be it.
I think the Punk/Taker feud kind of wrote itself with the passing of Paul Bearer but it's good the way they incorporated both a proper tribute and the death itself to heat up the feud in the same segments. It was clever without going too far. Triple H and Brock Lesnar are getting that much needed spice for a rematch with the classic stacking of the deck, and the attack on Haitch's friends. Both leave you with something more that you want to see play out before their matches... Punk has the urn, and I want to see what Heyman has up his sleeve for the stipulations.
Way on the other end of the spectrum you had a triple dose of absolute ass-gravy. There's no way in fuck that the same people that wrote the Punk/Taker/Kane stuff tonight were the same people that wrote the following anal-butter. Fandango was shit tonight(as always), but to be fair that's more on Fandango and not necessarily the writers. It was a decent start to a potential storyline angle with Naomi and the big boys... but you're talking about a possible singles star starting a feud with a brand new tag team. What sense does that make? Where can they go with that? Maybe Sweet T jobs for a week or two and Brodus Clay steps up to feud with him? This would've fit in a lot better if Brodus was still by himself.
Miz/Barrett/Jericho was by far the worst of the night, if not the worst of this decade so far. Right up there(or down there in this case) with Cena's go-home promo for the Royal Rumble. Have they not gotten the message that people just don't give a fuck about the movies? They're wasting so much fucking air time on this meaningless crap with the wrestlers ragging on each others movies, not to mention the constant barrage of trailers... and for what? Dead Man Down debuts 4th at the box office(possibly actually turning people away from seeing it on the show) with $5 mil this weekend, we get this crap for a segment, and we get this feud that absolutely no one in their right mind cares about. It's a loss for everyone involved, except for possibly the Miz as he claims first day sales for Marine 3 were insane. We'll see when actual numbers come out. To make it even worse, Brad Maddox comes out and takes the segment from a -7/10 to a -10/10 with his horrible mic work. At least it wasn't as bad as his commentary on Smackdown last week.
And finally, the Shield. Yeah, shit on me for this one. They actually came in with a purpose and had an actual premise. They were taking care of injustices, and it worked in the beginning. What the fuck are they doing now? What's the storyline here, besides just beating up on random people? Yeah, I get it, it's building to a 3v3 match at Wrestlemania, but where's the actual storyline? All they're doing is just run-ins and interferences. Let's have some promos, let's have Orton and Sheamus paranoid backstage or have them look for the Shield backstage, give me something that's not a run-in or an interference. It's getting old quickly, and how fitting considering who they're likely going up against... Sheamus who's getting old, Randy who's so beyond old its ridiculous, and Big Show who had a spark of something with Del Rio and is back down to Oldsville. With talks of Randy going heel, I'm almost afraid that they're going to put him with the Shield and let all the air out of their tires.
