John Frusciante was so instrumental (get it?) in the sound and feel of a lot of RHCP music. He is (in my opinion) one of the top 5 guitarists of all time (that I have heard!), in terms of knowing what to play and when, tone, sound etc. Probably even my number 1 choice. They were very lucky to have him for the time(s) they did. It's not easy to slot in between Flea and Chad Smith. Plus, every band plateaus at some stage.

Just read that Duffy introduced Marr to Morrissey! He's another Mancunian by the way...

I've been a blink fan for a long time, I grew up on the early stuff but love the newer stuff. It's like they matured at the same time I did. haha

I did get your double entendre... I do think bands plateau at some points but some bands seem to quit before that point. Nirvana for sure... Foo fighters if they decide to call it quits, and many other bands never really reached the point of what I would call a plateau...

For me, Foo Fighters were ALL plateau. Also, Nirvana were kinda forced to call it quits. I suppose they could have been like INXS (and Queen in later years) and held on WAY too long after losing a key member.

I thought wasting light was a great album. according to metacritic it's their best album minus their greatest hit album. I know critics are not the pulse of the people... but I wouldn't call their highest rated album a plateau. I do agree you can't really go on with out your lead guy especially knowing that kurt was kind of the voice of that entire genre.
