I'd like a Universe Mode or Career Mode that's very wrestler-centric. What I mean is, you play it through the eyes of the wrestler(not literally like in first person mode), and as if wrestling is real in a sense. You get to the arena before the show, and you can walk around and talk to people... like backstage crew or other wrestlers. What you can talk about is based on who you have alliances or feuds with, or just stuff in general about other things that are going on with other feuds or forming friendships/enemies through dialogue.
So say for example you're hunting someone down as Brock Lesnar... you have options to talk about that someone like "have they arrived at the arena yet?", or "have you seen them?", or you can straight up attack them if you like(which comes with positives and negatives like maybe opening up a secondary feud depending on who it is or having the guy your hunting form an alliance with the guy you just beat down, but possibly getting heat from Trips/Vince too and thus being put into a handicap match of some kind). You could even do a run-in during a match that's going on. You have a limited amount of time to do this kind of backstage stuff before match time, and you have a opportunities after your match to do the same sort of thing as long as it's a match that didn't injure you or something severe like that.
The same thing works against you. If you're the one being hunted by Brock Lesnar, you might expect to get jumped while you're going around backstage. Some scripted things should be in there too to keep this experience from being overly monotonous and to jump-start storylines or keep them progressing in an interesting way, and they should happen in a way that makes sense relative to what's going on regarding the booking of your character and who they're friends/enemies with and they should follow the mannerisms of the wrestlers on the show to at least a loose degree.
You have opportunities to increase your standing with the company in a variety of ways. Obviously winning/losing is the biggest factor but you should be able to do other things like fulfill Make-A-Wish requests, doing a commercial, an autograph session, an interview, etc. This ties into how you manage your wrestler's time away from the shows. Obviously travel is a factor in terms of how much time you have, but you should be able to schedule things like workouts, sparring with another wrestler, just general rest time, seeing family, etc. You have several stats that play into this like how homesick you are, how much stress you have(which builds quicker depending on how many activities you schedule during your off-time) and that kind of thing. You can schedule vacations if your stress builds up too much, like maybe take some time off or go do a movie or something if you're a big enough star on the roster... which are options for when you're injured as well.
Basically where I'm going with all of this is is that the content should be generated around your actions, and you have several opportunities to 'create' or escalate a storyline in and outside of the ring. It should be engrossing and encompassing, it should revolve around one wrestler... created or picked from the available roster, and there should be enough elements within it that it feels somewhat fresh because of all the different people you can feud with and opportunities to form friendships/enemies, forming factions and tag teams and that kind of thing, but it should also make sense relative to what you've done so far. This is one of the things that absolutely destroys Universe Mode for me, despite how basic it is.
