So, as probably none of you know, I collect cover songs, (it's a weird hobby, but all the other ones were taken)
In some cases I have been able to find covers that to me seem to actually be better than the original, or ones that seem to bring out a different meaning/tone in the songs, and those are my favorite
My second favorite type are those that are soo bad that you can't help but love em (Like the Baby got back cover that Throwdown did, or Hit me Baby by Type O negative)
below are three examples of covers I think are either better than the song they cover, or just bring something new to the table.
Open to any thoughts, other videos, discussions? Also if any of you just hate cover songs entirely, let me know why! :)
I don't like the MJ original version, but Alien Ant Farm (who I usually dislike) seems to bring a different energy to it, turning another pop song with an odd premise into something that you almost want to sing along with
Love the original version of this song, however these guys (who I have heard very little of besides TNA vignettes) manage to make it have an even more somber tone, I don't think that it is better than the original, but it is a very interesting take on it
Marilyn Manson, doing what he does best, taking someone else's song and injecting his brand of goth into it (Sooo not going to get into a discussion over whether MM is goth or not, because it really doesn't matter)
Oh man, I know thousands.
This. This is awesome.
Inb4 someone says Nine Inch Nails did a good cover of 'Hurt'.
Yeah, I heard that a few times, Christina Scabbia is just too hot for this world.
also lol at NIN covering Hurt :P Bet they are the people who heard Cash's most awesome cover
(Seriously, he fucking OWNED this song)
You have no idea the things I would do for a night with her.

I'm not a fan of the Alien Ant Farm remake of Smooth Criminal, but I do like the other 2 songs you posted.
Here are a couple of my favorite cover songs.
I loved the original by Genesis and I like Disturbed.
I hate George Micheal, but Seether made this song so fucking awesome!!!
oh I can imagine, mainly because I would be competing to do them first

I've noticed with Smooth Criminal, there seem to be two camps, people who like the MJ version, and people who like the AAF version.
Land Of Confusion is the song that convinced me to buy 10,000 fists instead of just downloading it. I fucking love that version!
also I have heard literally nothing else that these guys have done, but this song always makes me smile, just for sheer ridiculousness
