WWE must change Smackdown format

Rating: 5 votes, 3.60 average.
The WWE enters this fall with no new hit ideas outside of Nexus, which to this writer is getting stale with all the beat downs and making the WWE top elite look weak.

WWE Smackdown will switch networks from the MyNetworkTV to Sy-fy. It seems since the roster split back in 2002 WWE has been searching for answers for the Smackdown brand. But until they decide to seriously give Smackdown some creative ideas it will continue to suffer.

As long as it taped Smackdown will be the stepchild of the WWE. In this day and age with spoilers on the internet Smackdown will never boost ratings like the WWE hopes to. I know production cost prevents Smackdown going live so the attention has to move towards another method.

Friday nights is a bad night. Somehow negotiations with the network have to push to move the show back to Thursday nights. No one is in the house on Friday night but the 1.2 rating losers that you get. I know DVR and TiVo exist but I forget to set it before I leave out.

Stop marketing the Smackdown like Raw. I know it’s supposed to be more wrestling but Smackdown comes across as the "B" show. Bad editing and low budget top stars like Teddy Long, Matt Hardy, and Big Show bring down the brand's appearance.

So how do you fix Smackdown and the WWE for that matter? Rebrand the company. Market Smackdown in the direction that TNA once had with it young stars. Brand Smackdown as a separate entity from WWE.

You can have Undertaker, Kane, Rey Mysterio and other big shots come over to RAW. Make RAW the true "A" show it already is with a loaded roster and spread the wealth around.

Put the young next generation wrestlers over to Smackdown and market it as the "New Millennium" of Wrestling. I can Miz shocking the world and beating Smackdown's World Heavyweight Champion after cashing in his "Money in the Bank" shot at the end of a PPV. Then grabbing the microphone and pronouncing a new day in the WWE, a new ERA....

Smackdown comes on air and out of the blue "a someone" comes out with shock value announcing that the reason why Miz chose to win the Smackdown title was because he ordered Miz to. Because the "New Millennium" begins now with the Miz.

He could "release" anyone he doesn't want in his brand, allowing for the bigger name wrestlers to not want to be a part of this sudden change and going over to Raw.

Wade Barrett, Daniel Bryan, Kaval, and Christian to name a few sign with Smackdown and a new hip brand is created overnight.

Raw can continue to build the Sheamus and other young talent to be a part of Raw, but those who fit Smackdown's new style jump over to Smackdown.

Vince McMahon could use some prototype ideas on Smackdown instead of using on Raw brand. It would create a buzz and a different feel to the brand. The move would allow the WWE to go back to separate pay-per-views, because the interest would be there with all the big names being in the WWE Raw and interest in the young talent on Code Blue would create enough to get 150,000 buys on average.

Over the course of time stars would be born and the long-term project of storylines continue. WWE has to sacrifice the ratings for a while to create a brand that would survive. Wouldn't it be great to have Shane McMahon behind the "New Millennium"?

Smackdown would hold the "World Heavyweight Championship" and United States Championship along with their own Tag Team titles.

Raw would hold "WWE Championship, Intercontinental title, and the WWE Tag Team Championship

Disagree putting Undertaker, Kane, & Rey Mysterio on Raw is a bad move. You say,"Smackdown comes across as the "B" show." and then you say "Make RAW the true "A" show it already is with a loaded roster and spread the wealth around." Your idea to improve Smackdown is to remove the big names that make people want to watch the show?

Putting the big names is a horrible move. Big names need to be constantly involved in storylines. You'd be putting all your eggs in a basket. You can't put on a 2 hour show every week involving around the legends and future legends of the business. You don't believe me? Go Buy Total Extreme Wrestling 2010, get a real world mod, and try it out. It won't work easily.

I disagree with this article. They already have NXT which is supposed to be the future generation of wrestlers so i doubt that will work. And I agree with BigM removing the big stars will only hinder the show since most people want to see the main stars. I think the only thing that will make Smackdown relevant again is if they go to the pre-roster split format. That way not only are we going to see better storylines because there will be plenty of variety wrestlers, we will also finally see different top talent wrestle rather than just watching John Cena wrestle Orton for a full year.

I totally disagree with this blog. Smackdown does what Raw should do. Focus more on the wrestling and less on the storyline. Smackdown is the place where stars are built, Raw is the brand where Smackdown stars go to "shine" that's if they know the right people.

Everytime, Raw guts Smackdown during the draft the brand comes back stronger. Smackdown is constantly the better wrestling show. As for Big Show, Kane and Rey Mysterio they've all been on Raw and neither of them were able to make a splash on the show with the exception of Big Show when he was with Chris Jericho.

I get what your saying dude but that wont work. In fact, its already been tried and failed. What your explaining they do with SmackDown is EXACTLY what the WWE version of ECW was. It sounds good in theory, but it just doesnt work. I do agree that if SmackDown were to ever be anywhere close to succesful as RAW that they need to go live and they need to get the hell off of Fridays. They go live with NXT sometimes on Tuesdays.. why not just make Smackdown Live on Tuesday Nights? With the stars they have.. especially Taker people will watch. Again, maybe not as many as RAW but definitely more then what NXT does on Tuesdays and definitely more then Smackdown does now pre-taped on Fridays.

I'm completely against this idea, sorry dude. Smackdown will have to have Big Names on a constant basis to remain important in the fans eyes. Why would fans watch CodeBlue when the stars are only developing? This is basically what ECW tried to be in its dying days. The fans might as well wait until the up-and-coming stars from CodeBlue move over to Raw when they are ready.

This idea simply would not work. People watch Smackdown because of the big stars that aroe on it, taking them away would not help. And your idea of "release anyone he doesn't want in his brand", is not the right direction. You can't release a load of talent because they are too old for your brand. And I can't disagree more on the point on Teddy Long, Matt Hardy and Big Show "bringing down the brand's appearance"! Matt Hardy is one of the reasons I still watch Smackdown, and Big Show is one of the other reasons. And Teddy Long is great as far as I'm concerned. I get what you are trying to do, but as some of the above have pointed out, i'ts already been tried, and failed, so in the words of CM Punk; JUST SAY NO!

I also disagree. Smackdown and the Undertaker has been synonymous with each other ever since the brand extension. Same goes with Rey Mysterio.
