WWE: Missed Opportunities Segment 2

Rate this Entry
Hello everybody, hope all is well. I am bringing you segement 2 of this blog series. Now I wanted to do something fresh and not just relate this one alot to my last one on tag teams. So I am going to do Missed Opportunities dealing with the United States Championship. Here we go:

Alex Riley
When Alex Riley finally turned on the Miz, nearly everyone jumped on this guy's bandwagon. After jobbing for an entire year (not kidding) and finally getting a PPV match (not kidding about this one either) he would get a match with the Miz at Capitol Punishment (Sidenote: Honest truth I believe this was the worst PPV in WWE history) He would defeat the Miz and claim heights we did not know he had. He definetly can put on a great match and his mic skills (or since I last known) made so much sense and he was believeable with what he said. Also many people thought he would go on to win MITB to continue his feud with the Miz. Instead, he would get into a small feud with the US Champ at the time, Dolph Ziggler. People predicted they would face each other at Summerslam of 2011 for the US Title. It didn't happen. Riley would just fade away into a mist. And so many people were behind him too, but WWE did nothing. He could of gone on to become US Champion, but that didn't happen.

Mason Ryan
What a debut this monster of a man had. He would take out John Cena and become the powerhouse of the New Nexus. Eventually the New Nexus faded and he would become a face. He got victories over the likes of Jack Swagger (one on one) and Dolph Ziggler (only in maybe 2 tag matches) with Zach Ryder as his ally. He would just dominate. I was one who thought WWE was going to give him a push to become the United States Champion beating Dolph Ziggler so Ziggler could move on up to main event quicker. Poor Mason Ryan is now a low-carder. Can you believe it? I mean look at this guy. The dude has the physique of a world champion. WWE wants to keep pushing superstars that just debut when there is plenty of talent still in the business. It bugs me, seriously it does. We will just have to wait and see when Mason Ryan gets TV Time.

Zach Ryder
He would receive loud pops and really got famous off his Youtube show. Alot of the fans were into him. His comedic act really got him somehwere and eventually he would end an amazing reign of Dolph Ziggler as United States Champion (Out of all the guys to give it to). Fans even chanted something like We Want Ryder when the Rock made a promo at Survivor Series. Talk about fan power. As United States Champion, he did......well nothing but get beat by Swagger for the title. His reign was a joke and WWE could of done something bigger with him. I actually expected Zach Ryder to defend the US Title at WM. I even expected a feud with Curt Hawkins. Ryder would be used as Kane's ragdoll to take abuse and lose to. Now, Ryder is just showing up in random matches and is dealing with Kane in some way.

David Otunga
This guy had a chance. With Santino as US Champ and leader on Teddy Long's Team at WM28 and David Otunga as the leader of Johnny's Team this was very possible. All Otunga really did was job but he was getting somewhere with this match made at WM. With his lawyer gimmick, and John Laurenitis (however you spell it) bestowing him with the title could of done great things for his career. I would expect him to cheat alot and could of got help from Johnny to retain his title. Think of how much more heat he could of received. Could of, but it didn't.

John Morrison
After Jomo came off a losing streak by beating Mr.Ziggles on Raw, he would face him at Survivor Series for the title (Sidenote: Props to Dolph Ziggler, really made the title worth something, especially due to his long reign) I do not think I really need to explain this one. John Morrisons should of won this title. I mean he has won both tag team titles (I believe), the IC Title numerous time, and this was the last mid-card title he has not won. He really has amazing spots in his matches and can take risks like crazy. Everybody seems to mention his mic skills when talking about him so I really do not think I need to say anything about them. So Mr.Ziggles beat Jomo and John Morrison would be released. He said he left on good terms so hopefully he gets in the main event when he comes back. But winning the US Title at the time could of helped him alot. Especially stand out.

Damien Sandow
You may think what? Yes, WWE missed an opportunity by giving it to Antonio and not Sandow. Why you may ask? No doubt Antonio has a unique moveset, no doubt, but Damien is athletic too. Besides Damien had a better gimmick to go up against Santino. Damien could of talked about cleansing the title from such an ingnoramous and bringing back its prestige. Antonio's mic skills are just saying one word in 5 diffferent languages. Although impressive, its boring. Besides, Damien should go on to win a mid-card title anyways before getting a world title, unlike some people (Alberto Del Rio, Sheamus). I would love to see how much more Damien adapts and improves with him as a champion. He could of even feuded with Brodus Clay later with the title. I know he has not been in the WWE that long, but think of it. John Cena won the US Title as his first championship in the WWE at a major PPV. It would of made sense for Sandow. It would would of been rememorable cause this could of started a chain reaction of credible US Champions and ending folly in the title. Owell, not to bummed about this one, aslong as Antonio stops speaking 5 worded promos. Your welcome.

Jack Swagger
He won the US Title from Zach Ryder, would retain it against Justin Gabriel in a thrown together match at No Way Out, and lose it to Santino in a Steel Cage Match. What a reign huh? Its sad to see Swagger, a former world champion, steep so low nowadays. The title really helped him with his gimmick and made him look more of a threat as well as his little stable with Dolph Ziggler (sorry I am overusing his name) and Vickie a threat. It brought him back up and it would do nothing for him.

Honorable Mentions:
Tyson Kidd should of been a US Champion now, but there is no moment in history to where Kidd seemed like he had a shot. Hopefully he will beat Cesaro for it.
Kofi should of had a longer reign when he beat Sheamus for it at Extreme Rules
Shelton Benjamin jobbed in his reign as US Champion in 2009 alot it seemed
Well I hope you liked my blog. Sorry for any random errors as it tends to
happen. Please give me any superstars I may have forgotten.
God bless. And remember the Cross, especially who died on it.

Has Sandow even been on TV for a full year yet? How is it a missed oppurtunity? He is actually getting pushed for goodness sake. You don't think they are high on this guy? They had him in the DX reunion segment on Raw 1000. That speaks huge volumes for a new comer.

Mason Ryan is terrible on the mic and in the ring. He isn't even scary like big guys should be.

John Morrison is by far in my opinion the biggest miss they have ever had in a long while! Dude was good at everything he did i cant never remember seeing a bad moment with him. Worked great in tag team. Was a great heel and great face really dont know why he is no longer there but he is by far the biggest miss ever!

NO MIC SKILLS.... Half ass in ring talent, botch prone... Morrison has no place in the E'... Hell, I wouldn't even say he has a place in TNA.... Over rated, crap talent... They said he was in line to be the next Heartbreak kid... Thank god they didn't push him ...

I disagree. John Morrison was a pretty good in-ring competitor. He didn't have the best mic skills but all he needed was a manager to present him as a top talent.
