The John Cena Heel Turn and Why it Would Never Work

Rating: 3 votes, 3.00 average.
If I see another poorly written Brock Lesnar or Wrestlemnaina Blog I will Shoot my eye balls out. Today I wanted to do a different take on the Whole John Cena heel turn situation.... We see several blogs a week talking about how great it be for a Cena heel turn and some blogs predicting a Cena heel turn in the near future. Then we get the debate saying how it will never work cause "John Cena is the Face of the WWE" or "Too many Children love him" and even the "He sells too much merchandise" argument. But After Wrestlemania I have a different reason why John Cenas heel turn wouldn't work and it is not the cliche reasoning's you hear, No this is a different take on the matter and here is my opinion on Why it would never work.

Does John Cena have the charisma to pull off a heel turn? YES. Cena would make a great heel and it would have that Hogan joining the NWO effect. A lot kids who follow Cena cause they will feel betrayed and it would lead to a huge heel reaction... Does Cena have the mic skills to pull of a Heel Turn? Without a doubt YES. We got a Glimpse of what Cena could do as a heel on the mic when he cut the heelish promos on the ultra popular Rock and he was pretty stellar on the mic as a heel.... Would it be good storyline wise to make Cena a heel? Hell YES. It will freshen the product up very much so an d create new rivalries and different scenarios and so on.

So you ask why the Cena heel turn wouldn't? I mean if you take merchandise sales out of the equation and Cena being the long standing face and public relations figure in the WWE then what would be the reasoning?......
Its simple, Cena can not work a match as a heel. His in ring skills are limited, His selling ability is no where near the level it needs to be to be a heel, Cena has bad timing, Cena can not dictate the flow of a match (Which is what a heel must do) and Cena simply cant work as a heel, it exposes him....
Working as a Heel is much different then working as a face. Look at Randy Orton for example. Orton had a Great heel character, Orton had a Great heel presence but when it came to being in the ring, Orton lacked so much. Orton's matches was what seemed to be several mins of rear chin locks, ridiculously slow offense and bad timing when knowing when to perform a move. Orton had a few good matches but he struck out far more than he hit a base hit. Ortons matches with Batista, Cena, HHH, Jericho and so many others were very underwhelming, The quality of the matches ranged from painful to mediocre..... Then Randy Orton turned face and once he got the hang of it he was having Great matches with CM Punk and Christian and Also having Really good matches with Kane, Shemaues, Cody Rhodes, Wade Barrett and Dolph Ziggler on Free TV, Orton has even been able to carry guys like Mark Henry to decent PPV matches. Why you ask? Cause being a face plays to Randy Ortons strengths. Randy Orton lacks on Wrestling Psychology, When to do things and when not to do things. Randy Orton has a Great comeback move set, Probably the best in wrestling today. The unique neck breaker, Power slam, Great middle rope DDT, Punt Kick and RKO are very impressive looking moves. but other than that Ortons moves are limited. So keeping him a Face helps keep him from being exposed and covers his many weaknesses.

I looked at Wrestlemania and Seen Cena Work against the Rock and Cena looked out of place. Cena would strangely use a bear hug at the oddest times of the match, I mean really who uses bear hugs in wrestling? other than Mark Henery or the Big Show. Cena couldn't dictate the pace. The match was a mess.... Cena looked out of place and the match suffered cause he played a semi heel in the match. Cena was the heel in many matches by crowed response, but no matter what Cena would always play the face in the match. Look at RVD at 1 Night Stand, CM Punk in Chicago, HHH at WM 22. It dont matter Cena still played a face in the match.

Remember, Very few Wrestlers can wrestle as a Great heel and a Great face in the ring. People Like Bret Hart, Shawn Michaels, Steve Austin, The Undertaker and Chris Jericho are very talented at doing this but Some people don't have the ability to work both ways at a high level... Cena has some sort of unexplained "IT" factor that makes a great match, He poorly executes moves, He has a limited set of moves he can perform, he sells awkwardly some times and he is not very athletic at all, But he takes a sympathetic beating and makes good comebacks. Cenas matches have intense finishing sequences and Cena gets alot of emotion from the crowd in his matches, It don't matter if they are boos or cheers it still has a emotional investment from the live audience.

So After Wrestlemania 28 I realized how big of a mistake it be to make Cena a heel. Cena just dont have the ability to wrestle as a heel, It be Great all the way around but in the ring it would be a disaster unless he drastically changes.

I always have a new reason to dislike Cena (the performer/character, not the actual GUY, just to be clear) and my current one is his inability to sell the DRAMA lately. Rock cuts promos on him and he has that goofy smirk on his face. Brock Lesnar makes his "shocking" return (its a storyline, people. Just because we're "smartened up" to the situation doesn't mean its not supposed to be a surprise in the narrative) and Cena has a goofy smirk on his face. Brock busts his mouth wide open and instead of seething with rage, Cena has a goofy (albeit bloody) smirk on his face!!! See a pattern here? He should sell the drama. Good blog. Lol.

It really wouldn't matter if John Cena is a face or a heel he will never be respected as a Wrestling Entertainer but he will be Respected as of what he does outside the WWE that's it which is sad because he is the so called "Face" of the company but get's boooed. John Cena will always get boooed thru his entire career and don't be blaming the writers or management this guy brought on himself because he wants to entertain the people who buys his merchandise FUCK THAT I never been a fan of his and never will

good blog as always and this a good new aspect of the debate you have opened my eyes too..

one thing, at the start I dont like when bloggers dismiss other blogs or they make sure that we know that were reading something different before starting their blog. at he start you came off as spiteful or arrogant...just keep doing your own thing, writing great blogs

CM Punk and Triple H does the same and I don't see anyone giving them flock for it. I fail to see how Cena smirking is another thing to dislike him for.

Anyways, another reason why a Cena heel turn won't work is because if he turns heel, fans are going to cheer him which defeats the purpose of him turning heel.

If they keep doing what they are doing, then they wont need to turn him heel

Lol Cena smirks because Cena is the asshole type of babyface. He does that type of smirk that will piss you off. Lmao I find it hilarious.

You make some really great valid points, but you mean to tell me that Cena's untalented ass outweighs the attention WWE will get from turning Cena heel! That will be the biggest thing since Hogan turning heel. The emotion behind it is why it needs to happen. The kids who love Cena have no REAL emotion for the storylines, that is why they watch stuff like Spongebob and Adventuretime, because they don't care about story, just cartoons and color. What the Rock made fun of Cena for is exactley what WWE MARKETING wants Cena to do. That is why he looks like a fruity pebble all the time! Every 4 mos there is a new color Cena shirt because kids LOVE COLORS! So I believe it is a waste of time to try to write anything for Cena because kids cheer him no matter what! Now if he turns heel, those kids will get their first taste of emotion, they will feel betrayed and probably really sad, but that emotion is what makes these storylines thrive and give it some backbone. And everything that makes Cena a great FACE is what everybody hates in him. His limited set of moves, athleticism, and that is what will make him a great heel. People are already booing him as a FACE for that, so why not even more as a HEEL! You can even see it building to that. Look at Cena's face sometimes. The mixed reactions do bother him. I think WWE is telling him to have that reaction on his face to build up him turning. All the pieces are there....they bring Rock in to put over Cena, now they bring Brock in to put over Cena and knock some teeth in. This is elements for a perfect storyline. Cena who works his ass off for the company and fans, is put to the backburner for those who have left for bigger pastures, turning their back on WWE, now back for the attention and paycheck! Remember Cena said he HAD TO WIN MANIA! Well he didn't so he has to have a chip on his shoulder. Hogan was never booed the way Cena does, when Hogan was a top FACE and he turned HEEL, and trust me Hogan's set of moves are nothing to be in awe of either. Hogan made a great HEEL because of who he was and now he has turned bad, not because he could control a match, or make someone else look good. Same goes for Cena. THE CENA HEEL TURN NEEDS TO HAPPEN!
