Thoughts from the OldSkool

Well this is my first blog of the year. While I have been a member of this wrestling site for sometime now. I havent had the chance to write blog about wrestling. I was waiting for the right moment to do that. That time is now.
I'm writing on two topics. One is Tag Teams and the is A title I would to see in the WWE.

Tag Teams
Now I have seen a lot blogs about Tag Teams. All talking about how "they" would change it and so forth. This is NOT about that. I was reading a tag team blog and it said Tag Teams were good in 2000. I had to chuckle at that one. Don't get me wrong Tag Teams were good in 2000. Edge & Christian, Hardy Boys, New Age Outlaws, etc, etc.
2000 was not the year of Tag Teams. It was 1984-90's this was when tag teams were at it's finest. Midnight Express, Rock & Roll Express, The Fantastics, The Rockers, The Road Warriors, Arn & Ole Anderson, Arn & Tully, Doom, Steiner Bros., etc. I could go on and on. I haven't even mentioned WWF tag teams. The list was endless. I remember watching The Jim Crockett Sr. Memorial Cup Tag Team Tournament. This was wrestling watching Tag Team Specialists going at. These weren't 5min tag matches. This 30min a match the finals was 60min. Tag Teams from Japan, Mexico and the U.S. all vying for this huge trophy. I have the VHS tapes (6 in all) hours of great tag team wrestling. You can see some of those matches on you tube. Great stuff.

WWE should bring back the TV title
Now I've read some blogs that say the crusierweight belt should make it's way back to WWE. The problem I see with that is the weight limit. TV title should be used for the younger talent to mid-card talent. A stepping stone to the US and Intercontental Titles. This title should be defended on Raw and Smackdown 10 minute time limit. If defended at PPV also 10 minute time limit. You'll still get the fast paced action of the cruiserweights and technical in these matches. It would make for some great action and a easy time filler for Raw and Smackdown.

I agree with you about the 80s tag teams being the greatest including The Freebirds, Tully and Gino, The Koloffs, The Sheepherders. But what I miss now, no disrespect to the Luchadores or the Japanese, but the masked wrestler. Mr Wresting 2, The Spoiler, The Assassins, The Masked Superstar. I know Kane and Mankind and Vader wore masks but the others I listed never, that I am aware of, gave up their identity from promotion to promotion.

So your idea is by putting a time limit to the match, it will make the action fast paced and will show the technical side? Doesn't make sense to me. If you want to have a title that helps wrestlers build the stepping stones to the IC or US title, then give them their time. However long it takes. Let them go out there as the first match, and it last 20 minutes, and they just tare down the house. I like the idea of a tv title, dislike the idea of a time limit

I also would love to see WWE create a television championship. But it should come from the mergeing of th useless I.C. & US titles. Neither of those belts have the prestige or meaning that they used to. And nothing will compare with the tag team action of the 80's. Sometimes when I think about the garbage we're forced to watch in the "sports entertainment" era of wrestling it makes me sick to my stomach. Man, I remember alot of those great teams. The Fantastics, The Rock'N'Roll Express, The Midnight Express, The Road Warriors, The Sheepherders(I Hated the Bushwhackers), Tully Blanchard & Arn Anderson & The Kolloffs. Some great action from back in the day.

You mentioned a great time period of 84-90 and I remember watching the '87 Survivor Series and the tag team portion was awesome. Every tag team in that match (excluding the conquistadors) was excellent. Tag team wrestling was fine in '00 but for real tag team wrestling you gotta go back
