View Full Version : WWE's most cringing moments

After reading the Irish Potato thread I got thinking, are there any moments in WWE where a situation or comment made you feel uncomfortable?
They try to entertain and make jokes, but just like us, sometimes maybe they go too far and the joke falls flat.

I was at the Raw show in London where they had the 'Queen' knight Michael Cole and I felt like that was maybe too much.

Even though I'm indifferent about her, I just thought a countries figurehead was maybe off-limits and too cheap a way to get Cole heat that he didn't even need more of.

Any similar reactions to WWE skits?

Hey I was there to haha. I wasnt offended by it, but I thought it was well, crap and a waste of time that could have been taken up by actual wrestlers.

Yeah same here, or at least R-Truth beating up Jo-Mo some more.
"That's illegal" chant and Miz giving out that he was getting cheered were my fave bits.

They had an Obama impersonator as well,AND used him in promoting a PPV, in general,WWE doesn't really scream tasteful and they love playing off of stereotypes and cheap stunts. personally I think the ways they've humiliated JR have been pretty bad,LOL @ katievick angle, that thing gets mentioned every week some how it seems.

I really didn't like having to watch that, and that he fronted a PPV called "Capitol Punishment"
Remembering about the death penalty isn't something I wanna think of as I'm watching wrestling.

The Queen angle was made even worse by the fact they screwed it up so much. Cole claimed to be a Lord and a Prince during the angle. He was supposedly knighted. Which would make him Sir Michael Cole. Not Lord and certainly not a Prince. It was just a really pointless filler. Thank God they dropped it almost straight away.

Cringe inducing for me was when "the show went on" after Owen Hart fell and subsequently died. The wrestlers didn't want to perform, the crowd had fallen, nothing was worth continuing. I know the bought the PPV time and had to continue but it doesn't make it anymore sad, cringing and just wrong. R.I.P Owen Hart...

i personally think its one of WWE's best qualities of the show must go on but with respect. because the next night was a whole two hour show to repect owen ( the 1st time they had done that)

Doesn't make the segment any less cringe worthy. Wrestling is supposed to have the pulse of popular culture, without actually infringing upon it. That crossed a line that I think turned a lot of people off.

I heard Matt Stryker say during the Royal Rumble this year that Gail Kim isn't really a woman, that just made me facepalm hard, and made me understand why she left earlier this year.
Piggie James was bad, even if it was punishment.

And not really cringeworthy because it ended up having some pretty good matches and a decent rivalry but the debut of Yoshi Tatsu

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p5TCEdje5zs

Edit: I remembered what was said

In the summer of 2004, Michael Cole was in the midst of calling a match when out of nowhere Heidenreich grabbed him from the announce booth and dragged him to the back. Moments later, the pair were seen in the dark confines of a closet, with Michael Cole pinned against the wall.

Heidenreich was breathing heavily in his ear, telling Cole that they share the same desires. He proceeded to lock the door and promised Michael he was going to give him what he wanted.

http://www.shootingstarpress.net/pics/heidenrape.gif

Coming back from a commercial break, the pair were face to face, and Heidenreich read him a poem. Once completed, more grinding ensued, before Heidenreich demanded a thank you, and finally Michael Cole was released, where presumably he curled up into the fetal position in a hot shower, trying to scrub the nightmare away.

They had an Obama impersonator as well.

This was the first one that came to mind out of recent ones. Some of other ones that come to mind (besides Katie Vick, that's like shooting fish in a barrel with a nuclear weapon)

Mike Adamle on the mic (pick any really)
Al Sharpton on Raw
Khali and Hornswaggle with Ariel Winter (not her fault, I can't blame a kid for being awkward in a WWE ring, just those 2 being there made it seem like a Chris Hanson moment)
McGroober
Almost anytime John Morrison (as a face) is on the mic
Alberto Del Rio's horrible promos as a champion (I blame creative for this)
R-Truth's "Pretty Ricky" Persona
Edge with Paul Bearer
Overhyping what even Michael Cole realizes is going to be a bad movie
Raw 15th Anniversary - Gimmick Battle Royal
NXT Season 2 - Titus O Neil's "Make it a Win" speech
NXT Season 2 - Eli Cottonwood on Mustaches
NXT Season 3 - Everything but the commentary
John Cena's entrance at WM this year (I went off on this before, but it always struck me as super-awkward seeing a white guy from a town with almost no Black population from the Boston area debut a basically Confederate themed outfit after being introduced by an All-Black choir in Atlanta with a Jesus inspired promo, when he has never mentioned religion or southern pride in any meaningful way.)

Any English Promo in a non-English Speaking Country (Japan, years ago, Mexico City this month)
Grand Master Sexay Promo against Jerry Lawler this year
Vince into Big Show's ass
Awesome but Awkward moment:
Josh Matthews getting one of the highest scores on the punch machine
Gobbley Gooker
Moppy and the wood chipper

Just to name a few, haha.

I cringe every time Alicia Fox tries to attempt her finisher, be it the Ax kick or the flipping legdrop, although the latter is way more cringe worthy.

God, can't agree more, especially with what happened when she did it against Beth.

The Mae Young giving birth to the hand and the ENTIRE Boogeyman gimmicks are tied for the WTF award with me.

Overall though, the most cringeworthy thing I've EVER seen was Sid breaking his leg in that match with Steiner in WcW. Even Russo couldn't have written something THAT gruesome! *shudder*

The worst part was they let him lay there for like 5 minutes before someone come out to help.

IIRC didn't they even let Scott pin him while they waited for the medics? That always seemed kinda messed up to me. I know the show must go on but my God man, he's obviously in pain!

And Scott Steiner kept stomping him from what I remember or something like that. Sad day. :(

There's so many cringe worthy moments ... a couple that spring too mind is

this year cole bringing jerry lawler's mother (who had just died the week before) into the storyline was horrible tv and there was no need for it at all.

Another one was when JBL was on commentary on smackdown and started talking about ireland in a finlay match. Can't remember exactly what he said but basically implying that ireland was full of IRA terrorists which is in pretty poor taste in my books

One of the funniest/stupid moments i recall was having God as a character and Shawn Michael's tag team partner in a vince/heartbreak kid fued .. he had his own ring entrance music (harps) and spotlight following him too the ring, + then vince cutting a promo bad mouthing god .. pretty offensive too a lot of the god worshipping public .. not to me, i laughed out loud at the ridiculousness of it

How about this skip to 39 and watch this IDIOT mess his own job role up........ and then tries to cover it up. He make me turn the sound down on my TV lol.

Anything Michael Cole did or said in 2011. Nothing had me reach for the mute button quicker. A truely atrocious year for commentary.
