Gutted that Hargreaves was released. I was hoping they'd give him pre-season to prove his fitness before offering him a pay as you play/1 year deal.

On the bright side, Michael Owen has signed for another year :D

Yes, it's alive and kicking. It was created with two games left to the season, so it's been quiet.

Once things pick up again, it'll get used. *nudge nudge wink wink* lol

Would love him at utd though. Decent replacement for scholes.

and then if modric goes 2 chealsea get nasri so our midfield could be valencia/park carrick/anderson nasri sneider
notice nani isnt pt in i like him but he plays he plays for himself so i think he may get sold

The dissapointment from my point of view is that Real Madrid beat anyone to Nuri Sahin.

7 million euros? For one of the best midfielders last season? Crazy.

And sincara, yes Nani can be infuriating, but he did get the most assisst in the league, and won player's player of the year.

He was magnificent, and deserves to stay.

Too bad he's going to drown in Madrid. He was on loan here in Rotterdam a few years ago, you could see his potential. 7 million is underpaid, which is rare these days, the way they throw millions at each other.

I don't know man, but I think one of the reasons Messi plays so good is because he feels good in Barcelona, the city, and the team knows how he plays. Notice how Argentina sucked at the World Cup, although a very big part of that failure was their coach, but he wasn't as good as we were used to. An other thing I'm wondering about is: Will he get homesick? He lives there for over 10 years now. He seems to me like that type of guy that gets homesick. He doesn't speak the language, although that doesn't have to be a problem and he'll be required to make an instant impact from the beginning so that adds pressure in a foreign country for him where he may not speak the language from and he doesn't know his teammates well and vice versa.

World football is sort of my speciality, and what I want to become as a journalist, so if you have any foreign queries, let me know!

For me, I'd prefer Modric. He can score goals, but we need more of a supplier and creator than a goalscorer.

Why not have both? Scholes was a creator and goalscorer, and so is Snijder and Nasri for that matter. Also, we're more likely to get those 2 than Modric, who wants to go to Chelsea.

Glad we got Ashley Young in. Great young player added to the squad.

But if we are going for consistency, VDS is one of the best ever, nevermind this generation. And his service to United was outstanding. Not denying Buffon anything, he is a immensly talented keeper and I am a massive fan of his.

If anything De Gea is the next Casillas, surely?

Yeah was finalised today, I cant see Leicster going anywhere faster than us to be honest but i guess he has his own reasons ;) $$$

No offence mate, but I can see Leicester skyrocket. Big budget, big manager, promotion in their sights. Leeds did have a great season and have great players in Snodgrass, Gradle and Howson. I feel Leeds let Schmeichel go for a lot less then I expected, I just think he felt that he could be dispencable to Leeds.

Rachuba will do well with us i believe. I dont think he has as good as schimchael but doesn have the expeirance.

He's already U21's keeper, and replaced Asenjo at Atletico, so he's 4th already, and only 19.

He is basically going to be number 1 after Casillas, guarantee it.

Most overused statement of all time.

It wasnt men against boys at all if that is that is the case then a boys team put 2 past united lol.

Men against boys should only be used when a team wins 5 or 6 odd nil and the other team dosent touch the ball. Yesterday was not men against boys. It was Man U playing like the champions they are.

After seeing the highlights last night, I have full confidence that United have a great chance this season.
I have to say though, I was not impressed by De Gea's attempt to save the Dzeko goal. Van der Sar would have saved that, so I'm hoping that De Gea improves as he settles in.
Ashley Young was very good though, and it was good to see Nani continuing his good form from last year. His winner was brilliant!

Mate you only won 3-2 by a goal in the last minute.

Liverpool have won the community sheild before by beating chelsea but they went on to achieve nothing in the league.

At the end of the day the season hasent began yet.

Man U are the favourites because year in year out they play like champions. Man City are a team that has to be respected at the minute in time because of the sheer number of world class players they currently have.

This season is going to be very close between the top 4 teams and if tottenham can bag themseleves a cb and st then it will be 5 teams.

In the second half i agree Man U put on a masters display BUT that is typical Man U.

I think it was hasty for De Gea, the ball spins at the last minute. He is prone from far out, but it will get better.

Young was good, looked knackered near the end. I was mostly impressed by Smalling, Jones, Welbeck and Cleverly. They all played very well, and Anderson was MotM for me.

I think we did dominate large percentages of the game, a mad 10 mins in where we conceaded twice was dissapointing.

And the last 4 winners of the Community Shield, ever since it was held at the new Wembley, have gone on to win the league.

So, the stat that says that when United score first in a game, we usually win, goes out the window?

Dont take it seriously mate it was a bit of a joke. When Man U are losing by a few goals they always seem to go on and win was the point dont take things so seriously

I think we are favourites, and I can only really see 3 teams in it at the moment.

Well if thats the record then surely it stands to be broken not everything goes on forever.

The first half was closer then Man U fans are willing to admit.

Man U are always the FAVOURITES going into any season in my opinion

Sorry if I seemed as if I came on a little harsh, but we do always tend to come back. It's good to see, it shows the spirit in the team.

Very true, I'm not basing our season on it, just heard the statistic on Sky.

I wouldn't agree with that, because my brother agreed that United were on top, and he hates United (A forest fan).

I think we will always be around there and thereabouts, as do Arsenal. I'm hoping Arsenal prove me wrong, I'd much rather have Man U/Arsenal going for the title than anyone else.

Your brother more then likely is being nice my mates say the same when they are netural because i get that way when arsenal play claim we are dominating when we arent.

Maybe but Arsenal go up to about january then are useless hopefully we will sign mertesacker and samba soon as the reports suggest then we will become titl contenders

My stepdad did too, who supports Liverpool. We were stopping Man City doing anything for the first 30 mins, and if the situation was reversed I would have been annoyed at what City showed in that first 30 mins.

Samba? Yes. Mertersacker? No. He's way too error prone, and is unbelieveably slow. He can be good, but you want a minimal mistakes defender, and Per is not that.

Well my best mate supports Tottenham and he agrees with me when i say arsenal are dominating when they aint same with how i agree with him that tottenham are doing well when they aint.

Mertersacker would be a great addition to Arsenal as long as we had either Vermaelen or Koscieny playing next to him. It would give the Arsenal defence that height we need and he rearely lets long balls get the better of him.

I tend to say how I'd feel, such as City vs United at Old Trafford, they were the better side all game.

True, what Per brings is extreme height, and he is a good leader. He would be a good signing, but not great. He can get exposed, but he tends to organise the defence to nulify that. Again I would reccomend Hummels more, would cost more but is younger, similar height and build, similar leadership skils, can score often from corners.

Nah i can only see Arsenal signing two of these four defenders.
- Samba - Great height, Great leadership and is extremly underated. Plus hes an Arsenal fan.
- Mertascaker(cant spell that damn name) - Same reasons as Samba apart from this guy is about as rated as he should be.
- Jagelkia - One of my favourite CB plus hes English which would stop alot of moaners. But would he start or be 2nd choice???
- Cahill - One i dont care about really. Been linked with Arsenal for a while but he isnt in my top 5 english centrebacks where Jagelka is.

If we are talking about transfer deals should we move it to the transfer section and leave this thread for Man U only?

Nope it depends. I support Arsenal and i always have. When i was young i saw Ian Wright play and i began to support them then. After Bergkamp signed for them i became Arsenal through and through. It all depends on when you started to support a team. I started supporting Arsenal at 5 years old when i began to watch football.

As long as you find a team and you have supported them for most your life i see no issue with it. I orginally come from Leicester though i dont support Leicester City and i always found my self more towards siding with Nottingham Forest.

So if a fan sticks with a team for most of there life and dosent switch teams or start to support their team when they start to lose i have no issue with who they support.

But i do hate pretenders.

Thats Bullshit mate.

I was born in Portsmouth lived there about 3 months until my family moved to Leicester. So i grew up in leicester which makes Leicester City my local team.

And again as long as they choose to support that team and are true fans dosent matter to me.

Its the old Holier than thou reason that you are putting across. Everyone has the right to support which team they choose.

My grandad is from Manchester and supports United. Been supporting them since I was 5 and never looked back.

That's a fair point, and I didn't think about that tbh. I suppose it was easier to be an Arsenal fan than a Leicester City fan eh? :) And theres nothing holier-than-thou about it. I find it puzzling how someone can pledge alliegence to a team from another town/city than where they live locally. If you were born in Machester or North London then lucky you. If you were born in Yeovil, then tough shit, thems the breaks.

Not really no Arsenal have come close so many times over the last few years only to bottle it. With Leicester City you know where you are and what to expect.

Arsenal is a tough team to support as you have so much expection and when you hopes are building up they are suddenly crushed so again mate you dont know what your talking about.

So you think you should have no choice but to support a team you have no interest in? I fell in love with Arsenal because when i started to support them they had alot of characters in the team and when i watched them play it was like football as id never seen it before.

Why would they need more support? Forest sell out regularly, County aren't doing too badly either, and Mansfield get a decent attendance.

Why is it the easy option? You assume that because they win trophies it's easier? You don't think we worry about losing just as much as any other fan? Or elated if we win.

Pretty sure someone can choose to support whoever they like. If I moved to Germany, would I not be allowed to support Dortmund because I'm not from there? Exactly.

Support whoever you want, no if's or but's about it.

No because i grew up in leicester until about ten then i moved again.

My family comes from Coventry, from London, from Wiltshire, from Southampton. My family comes from around the UK so i dont feel i have to support any team by default.

Yes and no about your point you cannot force someone to support a team. And Man Utd are the pride of English football. With Chelsea i got your point when they got brought out alot more Chelsea shirts appeared but thats just a handful of fans.

I am a die hard Arsenal fan nothing will ever change that as im pretty sure 50% of Man U fans are die hard Man U fans. As long as you feel emotion towards a team you should be allowed to support them.

Hell i half support the Dutch national football team because i find them to be more entertaining then any other national team.(of course England comes first.)

But i feel as much Emotion when Arsenal play football as whenever England play a competetive match

In a sense, I can understand the point you are making.

But why can't you be proud of your teams accomplishments, even though you don't live there? I mean, I buy a United shirt every year, and try and get to a game a season, which can be difficult in itself. In a way, I contribute in a small way to them. I watch them or listen to every game, always putting my United shirt on for the occasion. The point we are making is that we made these choices, the assumption that we would leave if things turned on their head are wrong. And so what if Nottingham became the best team in the world, the majority, if not all, of the players wouldn't be from Nottingham.
