Based on in ring work and Mic Skills and to never have won a world tittle in the AWA, WWF or NWA. 1. I'm going with Arn Anderson..a damn shame he never got a run with the strap he made everyone look damn good in the ring and one hell of a interview..2 Jake the Snake is another one that comes to mind, his in ring psycology was out of this world and so were his promos. 3 Ted Dibase great in ring worker and got more heat then anyone in the WWF back in those days. 4. Tully Blanchard one of the best workers of all time and could make any crowd HATE him..Even back when the other horsemen got cheered he still got booed. 5. WAhoo Mcdaniels, the man Flair stole the ric Flair chop from, his matches always looked legit, and got over in every fed he ever worked.

Agree on the first three.

But Lawler did win a World Championship, just not the WWF Championship. He won the AWA World Heavyweight Championship from Curt Hennig

My bad. I did know this, didn't read the bit about 'AWA, WWF or NWA'. Another example of me not reading the full topic before commenting lol.

Greatest Wrestlers in the united states that were never World champion, im talking Workrate, Box office, impact on wrestling, doesnt matter.... Only Titles that count is WCW or WWE. TNA and ECW dont count or indie promotions.

Here they are in no order.

Mr Perfect (Curt Henning)
Rick Rude (i dont think that WCW international title counts)
Rowdy Piper
Jake the Snake
Owen Hart
Davey Boy Smith
SuperFly (he was Super over atg one time)
Dean Malenko (I know but at one point in WCW it was likly he could be Champ and it be beilvable)
Brian Pillman (would of been a future champ if not for injuries, He had a awesome persona at the end of his career)
Stan Hansen
Scott Hall (at the start ofn93 this was very possible)

whats your picks

Been digging in my mind, but can't come up with any other than the guys you have mentioned. Steamboat and Jake Roberts really should have held the title at least once, considering how popular they were, and Rick Rude too - he could draw heat like it was nobody's business!

To be honest, I've never been a massive fan of his, but I did like him, and as he had that terrible car crash before I started watching wrestling, he was a bit before my time. But looking back on his short career, it's clear he was destined to be the Hulk Hogan of WCW. Never a Henning or a DiBiase, but his in ring skills were slightly better than, say, someone like Nikita Koloff, and I reckon they were acceptable for the 80's. Never really liked the belly to belly as a finisher either, Shane Douglas used to use it in ECW and it was just as lame then. Saying that, he would have made a good world champ, as he had a massive following and the backstage allies that would have kept him on top for the rest of his career. As for the interview you mentioned, was that the one behind the steel cage mesh?

Side note: Magnums whole act screamed homo-eroticism ;)

Guys only NWA up until WCW bought it, WCW, WWWF, WWF andWWE count... ECW, AWA and international and the whole fiasco dont count... So Rude and Windham doesnt count as world champions so you can use anyone that was champion in any other promotion... so if you wanna say a Von eric besides kerry go ahead... Raven, Dreamer, Rude all those guys can be considered as best wrestlers not to be World Champion.

ButnotRicky Steamboat he was a Champion and and at the time it was the second most valed title in wrestling

Oh dont get me wrong im not saying he deserved the title but Wow Ahmed was over, i thought for sure he was gonna get the title, i couldnt imagine anyone pinning Ahmed cause he was booked so strong and Fans went nuts for him and on top of all that he was a scary guy that looked like he can kill some one... he was intense.... But he got injured and he was unreliable and he couldnt really have a long match or cut a interesting or understandable promo, WWE lost Faith in him and so did the Crowed..... But damn he was big for those few monthes..... Who didnt wanna see a Ahmed and Warrior match back then, The promos would be talked about till today haha

10 - Jerry Lawler
9 - Junkyard Dog
8 - Jake the Snake
7 - Rick Rude
6 - Paul Orndorf
5 - Jimmy Snuka
4 - Ricky Steamboat
3 - Mr Perfect
2 - Million Dollar Man

I would probably replace Junkyard dog with someone like Razor Ramon or Vader.

Other names that could be included on the list could be, British Bulldog, Owen Hart, Christian (?)

And in 10-15 years ? I think the list would look a lot like it does now. Right now if someone has main event potential and are young, they win the title. They didn't back then. You could maybe include a few names from the roster now, but not many.

Edit: A couple of other names i came to think of that could have been included, Honky Tonk Man, Big Boss Man, Ken Shamrock, King Kong Bundy. Not that I would have included them all, but they are subjects for the list

I'm talking WWE here of course

1. Mr. Perfect
Simply perfect performer, had all the tools to be anything in the business, and had those little things he did that made you believe he was perfect.

2. Jake Roberts
Any more intense personality ever? No way, almost my number one.

3. Ted Debiase Sr.
Keeping these top 3 out of the number one spot is hard, but Debiase less than the other two screams World Champ.

4. Roddy Piper
Best mic performer ever, imagine The Miz of the 80's talking shit better than anyone could ever try to do.

5. Owen Hart
Great ring performer, intense mic work, but I feel he didn't have the charisma of the above superstars.

6. Muhammad Hassan
Guy had every tool ever, and played a tough gimmick to a legendary level, his time was short so that hurts his standing.

7. Vader
Size, speed, agility, amazing ring work. The Abyss of the 90's, his time in WWE was short so that hurts him.

8. Andre The Giant(his short reign doesn't count)
C'mon, has anyone other than Big Show been able to be 7 foot, 500 pounds and play a straight up babyface that no one was afraid of? He deserved it.

9. Razor Ramon
Back in the day this guy was the bad guy, but still got cheered without needing to change his character or his mannerisms. First and arguably the best anti-heel ever.

10. Kaval
Dropping the ball hard, WWE did it with this incredible ring performer, and now I feel they have lost him for good, jobbing a man like this out should be a crime.

I tried to choose people who will never have another chance to be World Champ.

I wouldn't count out Christian yet. However, WWE has seemed to give some talent they do not deem worthy of WWE/WHC gold the WWECW title instead. True, there are WWECW champs that have held WWE/WHC gold like Swagger and Punk, but you also have Ezekiel, JoMo, and Christian waiting in the wings.

Razor Ramon/Scott Hall screamed WWE champion and/or WCW Champion if it weren't for all his personal problems. Plus, wasn't Ted Dibiase Sr. champion for a little while? I thought he bought the belt from Andre the Giant? But other than that it's a shame Mr. Perfect never held the title. I'm sure injuries and his eventual jump to WCW had a lot to do with it, but his IC battles with Bret Hart and HBK were classics and battles with those two over the WWE Championship would have been stellar as well.

I don't think it is fair to the past to include anyone on the list that is still an active wrestler. Jerry Lawler is techniquelly not active, but again, I also don't think he belongs on the list. Guys like Davey Boy Smith and Owen Hart belong on the list instead.

Kaval has no right at this point to be even considered for this list.

Some modern day "legends" include Regal, Goldust (dustin rhodes), Christian, Bulldog, Dynamite Kid, Ron Simmons (I mean, he was the first african american champion in WCW), Vader, Rikishi (he spent over 15 years in WWE and was near main event at one point), Umaga (should have been pushed but SuperCena stopped that), Shamrock, Bam bam, Razor Ramon, DDP, HARLEY RACE!! and Sting.

10 - Jerry Lawler
9 - Junkyard Dog
8 - Jake the Snake
7 - Rick Rude
6 - Paul Orndorf
5 - Jimmy Snuka
4 - Ricky Steamboat
3 - Mr Perfect
2 - Million Dollar Man
1 - Roddy Piper

What are your thoughts?

I think Rick Rude and Snuka should trade places. Not sure about Lawler or Dog being on the list. I think the top 4 could be swapped anyway and I'd be ok with it.

There is already a thread on this in wrestling time machines...

Anyways, I think you have to put Owen hart and davey boy smith in there too IMO.

Some modern day "legends" include Regal, Goldust (dustin rhodes), Christian, Bulldog, Dynamite Kid, Ron Simmons (I mean, he was the first african american champion in WCW), Vader, Rikishi (he spent over 15 years in WWE and was near main event at one point), Umaga (should have been pushed but SuperCena stopped that), Shamrock, Bam bam, Razor Ramon, DDP, HARLEY RACE!! and Sting.

Agreed with everyone but Sting. He is the only one mentioned that hasn't signed with WWE.

Reportedly he was offered the title in WWE and WCW on multiple occasions but turned it down

I totally agree with your list, 'cept for Kaval. He's fantastic, no doubt, but not long enough for WWE to even recognize as potential to be THE champ. But the reason these guys weren't the champ was cuz being THE wwe champ was the most prestigious thing to even think of. It wasn't the cheap whore that the title is now (Jack Swagger even won a big one... smh). Also, the lower tier titles had much significance to them, which was able enough to push these guys to the top.

Yes it should be more prestigious within the company because it is the actual heavyweight championship of the WWE company. The WHC, I believe, was only created to make Triple H feel better about himself. It never should have come into play and should not share the lineage of the original WHC of the old NWA days and earlier. To me, all the WHC is, like i said before, a consolation heavyweight title prize to the guys who probably would not have won the WWE title if it was still the only title in the company (Mysterio, Benoit, Booker, Goldberg, Ziggler, Swagger, Khali, Batista, CM Punk).

Ok. So once again, I was educating the beautiful Daisy Ramos, my girlfriend on past performers. We were watching some dvds and the '' dont try this at home'' came on. She saw Holly bleeding from his back when he was in ECW. So I started telling how he started.

Now Im thinking: Bob 'sparkplugg' Holly, Therman sparky' Plugg, Bombastic Bob and Hardcore Holly isnt that far from Justin 'hawk' Bradshaw. If Bradshaw and Trips started in the horrible gimmick era and became legendary champions then Holly could have too.

I know the guy was a deusch and all the history but he deserved at least the WWECW belt. Right?

I don't know for sure but I just never saw him as a headliner. He always came across as a mid-card guy. Holly was solid in the ring but I just think he was lacking in a few areas like a personality, charisma, mic skills & so forth. You have to be more then just a pure wrestler to be a headliner as now, more then ever. You have to be an entertainer as well & Holly wasn't what you would call an "entertainer" but just a good wrestler.

But Benoit was a good enough performer to warrant a World Title push, his matches were entertaining. You can't say Holly was a good technical wrestler. Just because a guy works stiff doesn't mean hes a good wrestler.

Benoit only became champion because of overwhelming demand by the fans due to them liking his matches. Guys like Rey Mysterio, Bret Hart, Shawn Michaels, Eddie Guerrero, they broke the mold too. Holly never inspired the fans the same way. Im sure if the fans had gone nuts over Holly's matches Vince wouldve been happy to put a belt on him.

Plus I'm sure that working stiff and generally being a jerk backstage didn't win him any favors.

I think he could have been, with the right gimmick.

I mean the man was not bad in the ring, when playing Hardcore he was intimidating, if allowed to be even more vicious he could have been like a silent killer or something like that, maybe if someone like Paul Heyman would have managed him, he could have done wonders.

I am just talking about the wrestler and his possibilities on screen, backstage stuff is another issue, but his character could have worked in my opinion.

The WCW announcers said it best when it comes to expressing my opinion of Bob Holly. I think on the Monday Night Wars DVD, one of the WCW announcers that was giving away RAW results ended his Cliff Notes' version of the show with "Bob Holly... he's still around.", and that's how I've always felt about Bob Holly. Never cared. I put him on the same tier as guys like Funaki. They're just... there. Every once and awhile there's a glimpse of something but it comes right back down to nothing.

I would bought him as champ during that push he had (wasn't sure if steriods ended it or Angles moonsault though)

And i agree about benoit and guerrero...there was a lot of pressure from fans on that one. Plus i'm sure i seen somewhere they decided to put the belts on guerrero and benoit because Arn anderson, Ric Flair, Malenko and then Triple H requested it. I'm sure they played a bigger role than the fans.

I still remember his feuds with Mordecai an Brock Lesnar an that gruesome spot he took on ECW where he had that nasty deep gash on his back. I still remember most of his career. He was an average looking guy, but he was a very tough one at that. Some believed that he deserved a break an should have climbed the ladder to that famouns Main Event push. I read or watched an interview 2 years ago I believe where Bob Holly talked about how dedicated he was to work for the WWE, and how he recieved a phone call out of the blue saying that he was released from his contract an how outraged he was about it. He literally flipped a lid. I could already imagine a vein busting out of the guys forehead. An I found this little bit of information. Rumor has it that he, "Reportedly tried to steal pain pills from Ken Anderson's bag, but claims that Ken asked him to go an get it for him. This resulted in a rehabilitation an immediate release" But as Bodom would say: Only take it with a grain of salt.

Mr Wonderful's name doesn't come up enough on this topic. In the mid 80's he was the real "total package". Allot of people name Curt Henning, not knowing he was the AWA world champ back when that still meant something. Some more wrestlers that I'd of liked to see with a world Tittle. Arn Anderson, Tully Blanchard, Superfly Jimmy Snuka, and Don Muraco.
