Hello everybody. Seeing as how The Greatest Rivalries Tournament has now come and gone (congratulations to a very deserving Bret Hart and Shawn Michaels for the victory) as promised, I will now start the Greatest Horror Movie Tournament.

For those of you familiar with the way my tournaments run, this is the thread where you all will make your picks for who you want to get into the tournament. For those of you who are not familiar with the way my tournaments run...this is the thread where you all will make your picks for who you want to get into the tournament. Let me elaborate, you list your 16 favorite Horror Movies in no particular order, and just like the tournament itself, choosing the movies that will make the tournament will be decided democratically through vote. After a three day period of voting, I will tally up all the votes and the 16 top vote getters will make the tournament and all others will be disregarded.

After the votes have been tallied and we decide who is in and who is out, I will then determine the particular match-ups that you will then vote on in a poll. Each match-up will have it's own thread and poll, and we will all be able to discuss why we voted the way we did. For example, say a match-up will be Halloween vs. Friday the 13th, you will be able to vote for which movie you enjoyed more and you will be able to discuss why you feel this way. After three days of voting, the winner (say Halloween in this case) will move on to the next round to face a winner from another match-up.

In this tournament, I will once again be posting videos I find about the subject. They will be either a classic scene from the movie, a trailer, someone respected within the horror field discussing the movie, or anything else I find interesting. Without further ado, here is my official vote for who I want in (this list is not in order by the way):

1. Silence of the Lambs
2. Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974)
3. The Wickerman (1973)
4. Alien
5. Psycho (1960)
6. Don't Look Now
7. Dawn of the Dead (1978)
9. Jacob's Ladder
10. The Omen (1976)
11. Night of the Living Dead (1968)
12. The Exorcist
13 The Shining
14. Audition
15. Halloween (1978)
16. Frankenstein (1931)

For those of you who want to know, I based my decision on 4 different categories, with the importance of each category coming by order of appearance:

1.) How good the movie is (Script, acting, direction, etc)
2.) How scary the movie is
3.) Impact on society/pop culture/other movies
4.) Gore (to be graded on a scale)

This will be the basis of my decisions on who I personally will vote for in the individual match-ups as well. You by no means will have to do this as well, but i just wanted to let you know my personal preferences.

Well, let the voting commence, and feel free to discuss why you voted the way you did on this thread as well.

Considering how I can't really do this without more people voting, I've decided to extend the voting period for this thread to get as many people in on this as possible. I'm sending PM's to everyone who seemed interested in this before notifying them of the situation. Thanks everyone for the support, and once this thing gets goin I think it'll be a lot of fun!!

No problem man, I'm greatful for the support no matter what. This isn't just for you, but for anyone who is willing to read this comment: you don't have to be a hardcore horror fan to give your input on the matter. If you like a particular movie regardless of if your a fan of the genre or not, feel free to let your opinion be known because it'll count just as much as the next guy. I should have specified this earlier, but here it goes now:

**You don't have to post 16 movies. 16 is the max amount you can vote for, but if you only really like 10 that you can think of, feel free to post those ten. If you can think of 16, I suggest you post them just so you can voice you opinion, but what I'm saying is, you don't have to**

You can edit your list if you want. I haven't tallied up the lists yet, so you can add/subtract/do whatever you want. It's your list, I'm just the organizer if you will.

Thank you guys so much for doing this btw. I will tally up what we have so far after RAW tonight.

This is assuming though that everyone meant the more popular versions of the movies (i.e. Cronenberg's The Fly, Carpenter's Halloween). The vote is by no means over though, so if you have yet to vote and one of your favorites isn't in the tournament right now, don't worry, there is still a lot of room for change in this list as everyone is close.

Wow, I haven't seen a good horror in a while, and if truth be told, it's not my favourite genre, but here goes anyway.

INPO

28 Days later
30 Days of Night
Nightmare on Elm Street
Hostel
Ring (Japanese)
The Eye (Japanese)
Black Water (had to throw a B-Movie in there)
Jaws
Texas Chainsaw Massacre (original)
The Grudge
Dawn of the Dead (Original)
Haloween
Scream
Exorcist
The Omen
The Descent
House of Wax

I don't really watch Horror films anymore, as these things seem to leave more of an imprint on my mind than they used to. Yes I am getting old. Hell, I even got a chill or two watching the first episode of The Walking Dead!!!

PS. My last choice was a joke. Much like the movie itself!

Yeah, both originals... I may get flamed for saying the other ones :)

As for House of Wax, it was alright, and it definitely had it's fair share of gruesome moments, but I guess Paris Hilton being in it made it lose a few points. The finger chopping scene was pretty nasty though!

I don't think anyone would flame you for an opinion Kash, nor should they. I do got you down as having both the originals though which is cool because a few movies are beginning to seperate themselves from the rest of the field. This is a good thing because having 12 movies tied for the last spot wouldn't be a good thing.

Oh and I didn't mean the shite remake of House of Wax with Paris Hilton, I meant the original one with Vincent Price in it.

**Since eventually voting will have to close for this, I will be leaving this open until 8:00 pm American ET where it will be closed and the final votes will be tallied. After that time there won't be any exceptions so get your vote in quick!! Sorry to put the rush on everybody, but I'm excited to get the tournament going now!**

Yeah, shows how worthy I am to comment on this tourney, as I didn't even know there was an original. Although it doesn't surprise me, in fact, I wouldn't be surprised if they remade Jaws (which should be left well alone), as these kind of movies appear to be fair game for those willing to plagiarise them.

Just a rumor, but I have no doubt it will happen. Apparently their remaking Scream and Child's Play as well....because both of those movies apparently so bad that they need to be re-done.

From my expeience in SES's wrestling tournaments? Yes, lesser known movies will be buried just like lesser known wrestlers were in the other tournaments.

Yes unfortunate the lesser-known movies don't stand too much of a chance, but then again, this isn't exactly to be taken all too seriously anyway. In the end though (at least based upon my last two tournaments) a well deserving entity usually ends up taking the main prize.

Thanks for the correction Yeti, I'll have to check how many vote Ringu actually got. If I'm not mistaken though, I do believe whoever voted for "The Ring " meant the American version.

EDIT: Great call on the Ringu correction, as my facts were indeed wrong. Ringu got three votes and The Ring (American) got one if I'm not mistaken.

As you can see, this leaves me in a bit of a conundrum, as Psycho, Alien, Night of the Living Dead, Rosemary’s Baby, Evil Dead, Army of Darkness, The Fly, Jacob’s Ladder, Pet Sematary, The Grudge, and The Descent all are tied with two votes a piece. Only 3 of these films will make it, but seeing as how voting is closed and I don't wanna be the one who makes the decision by myself, I must go through other means. I didn't want to have to do this, as I wanted this to be solely based on our opinions here in the EWN, but I do have a back-up plan for just this very situation.

Chicago Film's Critic's Association composed their own list of the 100 best Horror films (article: http://horrormovies.tribe.net/thread/5a8e8927-ce4f-4451-ae52-0020375d5c32) and I am choosing to add their top 16 picks as an official vote. Their top 16 picks are:
1. “Psycho”
2. “The Exorcist”
3. “Halloween”
4. “Alien”
5. “Night of the Living Dead (1968)”
6. “Jaws”
7. “The Shining”
8. “The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974)”
9. “Dawn of the Dead (1978)”
10. “Rosemary’s Baby”
11. “The Silence of the Lambs”
12. “The Blair Witch Project”
13. “Nosferatu”
14. “Frankenstein (1931)”
15. “Nightmare on Elm Street”
16. “Carrie (1976)”

With this being the case now, the 16 movies that made the final cut are:

1. Dawn of the Dead-7
2. Silence of the Lambs-6
3. Halloween-6
4. The Shining-5
5. Texas Chainsaw Massacre-5
6. The Exorcist-4
7. Jaws-4
8. Nightmare on Elm Street-4
9. The Thing-3
10. Audition-3
11. Scream-3
12. The Omen-3
13. Ringu-3
14. Psycho-3
15. Alien-3
16. Night of the Living Dead-3 (Rosemary's Baby also had 3 votes, but I decided to not include that one because it was ranked the lowest by the C.F.C.A. of the eligible remaining movies voted in by them)

Here are the brackets for the first round of the tournament in case your interested:

1 Dawn of the Dead vs. 8 Night of the Living Dead
4 Jaws vs. 5 The Thing
3 The Exorcist vs. 6 Scream
2 Silence of the Lambs vs. 7 Ringu

1 Halloween vs. 8 Alien
4 Nightmare on Elm Street vs. 5 Audition
3 Texas Chainsaw Massacre vs. 6 The Omen
2 The Shining vs. 7 Psycho
