Why is it called the Kurt Russell reunion? Anything to do with the actor?

It's PWG. They always have awesome names.

Kurt Russell rhymes with "wrestle", I guess.

I loved that one of their recent DVDs (The Curse of Guerrilla Island) not only took its name from Monkey Island III, but totally recreated its cover art with wrestlers.

PWG and Chikara with their creative show names

From top to bottom the card looks solid,I thought Steen want to take time off to heal his injury after final battle 2010,Low ki vs Davey definitely the main attraction here.

Stiff kicks,stiff kicks everywhere.

Im guess Steen still has bookings he has to honor, but I'm only assuming, So I can't really say.

Ki vs Richards is definitely an early MOTY candidate.

Yeah, KurtRussellMania last year was a fucking wicked show, featuring Liger Vs Generico, Richards Vs Steen, Tornado Vs Suler Crazy, The Young Bucks Vs Londrick, Joey Ryan and Scott Lost (the former X-Foundation) Vs KAI and Muta, RVD Vs Strong Vs Hero and more. I loved that show, and I can't wait to se this years show!

@Necro: PWG has overtaken ROH in my opinion, as it is truly the best Indy promotion today (not that ROH can really be described as an Indy fed these days), I just love that raw feeling I get from PWG, which is what has been missing from ROH for quite a while now.

Yeah, it's debatable whether ROH can be considered a true indy company anymore. I know DOI and some other places tend to scoff at it for being "too mainstream" or whatever.

I've only really seen 2009 and 2010 PWG, but it reminds me of 2004-2006 ROH a bit (in that they care more about workrate and putting on "dream matches" over storylines and taking themselves seriously and whatnot.)

RoH is more like a company that uses indy workers, but I suppose at the end of the day it still is really an Indy fed. I've been a fan of the California Indy scene for a while now, as I used to be a big SuperDragon mark, and after seeing him in CZW's BOTB I had to find more of the guy. Back in the early naughties guys like Zokre, Quicksilver, Rising Son, Scorpio Sky and B-Boy used to put on some great matches in promotions like Revolution Pro.
The first PWG show I ever saw was the Tango and Cash tag team tournament 2004.

Here's the list of the teams.

American Dragon and Super Dragon
Apollo Kahn and Sara Del Rey
B-Boy and Homicide
Babi Slymm and Matt Cross
The Ballard Brothers (Shane Ballard and Shannon Ballard)
Chris Bosh and Quicksilver
Chris Hero and CM Punk
Christopher Daniels and The Messiah
Disco Machine and Rising Son
Excalibur and Jonny Storm
Hardkore Inc. (Al Katrazz and Hardkore Kidd)
Havana Pitbulls (Ricky Reyes and Rocky Romero)
The Iron Saints (Sal Thomaselli and Vito Thomaselli)
Los Luchas (Phoenix Star and Zokre)
Puma and Samoa Joe
X Foundation (Joey Ryan and Scott Lost)

This was a mother fucka of a show!!! Check out some of those names!

I've seen most of the Super Dragon and Kevin Steen feud in PWG too, in fact I often use the #1 contenders match to get people into indy wrestling IRL.

Obligatory (3:40 onwards)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=49MyMcVk280

That's some card though. I really wish I was into indy wrestling back in the early-mid noughties.

Speaking of tournaments, I have the TPI 2004 downloaded, which has gotta be one of the greatest cards EVER. Watching it as soon as I've caught up with this year's ROH and Chikara events.

I actually missed a lot of the Dragon-Steen feud/war and only saw a match or two, plus a few music vids. But in my mind, it was the stand out feud for Steen, as he kinda went from the guy who always wrestles Generico (in awesome matches) to a guy who could hang with the Indy elite.

Not trying to boast, but I've seen every TPI and only 2006 can compare to the WrestleWood that was 2004. I must have watched that show over 20 times. Almost every match is a winner, and it was wonderfully booked as well. Your in for a treat, especially if you like plenty of strong style in your wrestling (who doesn't)

Side note. IWA-MS back then was very similar to the way you described how PWG is now. They used to have a lot of dream matches back in the early/mid Noughties.

Joe Vs Hero
Joe Vs Necro I & II
Danielson Vs Hero
Too many Hero Vs Punk marathons to mention
Lowki Vs Necro
AJ Vs Sydal
The Jacobs-Shelley and the Delerious-Sydal feuds at the beginning of their careers
Necro Vs Corporal Robinson

Plus all the classics in the TPI's

Man alive, that promotion has put on some classics in it's day.
I heard they have started up again but I haven't checked it out. Thinking about it I must rectify that!

Recently I've heard about the rebirth of Impact Championship wrestling, that New York promotion run by Jack Sabath. I used to be a big fan of their product and they used to feature guys like Xavier, Lowki, Homicide, The SAT and the HitSquad. I have just ordered 4 of their shows, which have some great cards. Plus, ICW play the Elks Lodge, and that place always has an awesome atmosphere.
