View Full Version : Joe off script?

While watching Impact last night, my wife and I were set to watch another classic battle between Kurt Angle and AJ Styles. The usual banter between Taz and Tenay was cut short for what I thought to be perhaps the best speaking segment of the night. Samoa Joe walked out, picked up the spare headset, and proceeded to cut an excellent promo on the upcoming BFG series match this sunday. After watching the promo, the general tone of Joes comments, and the look on both Tenay and Taz's face, my wife asked me if that was real or scripted.

Normally when I am posed with that question, I am usually able to point out where's the work and where's the shoot. In this instance, I was left second guessing. Joe's comments about "the company", his comments about everyone else getting time to talk, cutting Joe off with AJ's theme all lead me to believe that this was something unexpected. But the time that they were spending before he came out, the length of time before being cut off, and the fact that he said what he should have said (nothing real "revealing" other than that Chris Daniels shops for man-kini's) and didn't add anything else make me think this was just a very well delivered promo.

What do we the smarks believe as a whole? I tend to side with the "it's a work" arguement on this one, but I will give Joe credit for one thing. He made me second guess myself, and suspending my belief is ALWAYS a good thing in the world of Professional Wrestling.

just a good promo the mic would have been cut off 5 seconds into it if he wasn't ment to do it. Just a way to get joe on the show

TNA has been doing a great job with their 'works' this summer. Have not seen the segment yet but I am sure they would just cut the mic if it was a real deal thing.

Yes, they're supposed to cut the mic when stuff like this happens, but did we all forget Joe @ Turning point 2007? It's usually when he's the most passionate that he is being the most real, just like what he cut last night...

I am fully in support that this was just "part of the show" but I am giving credit to Joe for showing the fire and heart he has, but hasn't had the air time to show lately. I hope this means there's a lot in store for him coming out of this series.

Here's the TP shoot, incase we all forgot

Well I am sure Jimmy Cornette was pissed at the time and told Joe to go out there and say whatever the hell he wanted. I doubt they gave him the full green light again. Still need to see the segment.

Even I felt the same...otherwise they might have cut the mic..or probably they do not want to mess more in the PPV so they might have allowed him to say whatever...

I heard some where that TNA stopped scripting the promos to make them feel more real and they are going for more of reality type product

I believe they have given more creative freedom to talent with their promos, but as for being fully "unscripted", I doubt it. You can tell Abyss was definately creative in last nights promo, but it was by far a scripted promo that he had to have approved before being put on the air. They can't give someone time to just speak their mind on specific topics... They have to lead the angle to further the storylines.

It was very well delivered...and yes, I can see where you might second guess whether or not it was scripted or not. I think it was a little bit of both, as many of TNA's talking segments seem like they follow an outline, rather than a script. However, I'm sure it's part of the show and Joe came out and did a "I do my talking in the ring" type of spot.

It goes to show you how much of a great promo cutter Samoa Joe is. He makes you believe every word hes saying and puts a lot of fire into his promos. Hes often compared to Taz when it comes to cutting intense promos but I believe Samoa is even better. The promo he cut last night was great and even I wondered "Was that a shoot?" I really want to see a match between Samoa Joe and Austin Aries at Bound for Glory. Samoa Joe is most likely a dark horse but you never know with the BFG series. It would be great if they were to add that to a possible Samoa Joe/Austin Aries feud with Samoa Joe cutting promos about how he is sick of Austin Aries getting all of the praise and hype from TNA management while Samoa Joe dominating the BFG series was overshadowed. It would be an interesting storyline and would lead to an amazing main event match between the two for the TNA World title. One can only hope though. :D

Just watched it there he would have been cut off straight away or the camera would have cut off him if it was unscripted just an angry promo from joe!
