A thread to discuss things going down in the in all things MMA, which generally means UFC. ;)

So this morning I came across this - http://www.ufc.com/news/tuf-16-carwin-nelson-announcement. It seems Roy Nelson & Shane Carwin will be coaching, but this article has Carwin listed as the interim UFC heavyweight champ - is this just an error? I can't find anything else about it.
However yesterday, I saw this - http://www.sherdog.com/news/news/Ross-Pearson-George-Sotiropoulos-to-Coach-Ultimate-Fighter-Australia-vs-UK-44131 - which initially I thought was going to be the next season, but I see now it says it will be the next international season.
I also see they have done away with the audition process - what's up with that?

Yeah. I think it probably meant to have "former Interim...", 'coz Carwins not fought since 2011. I want to be on Team Big Country.

Did anyone see any of the UFC on Fuel? Francis Carmont looks like he could be next big thing? He's nearly making it into my increasing number of 'Fave's'. I'm thinking Renan Barao will, when he becomes the Interim Bantamweight Champ.

So the coaches are now guys who aren't even in title contention? Haha, what?

At UFC 154 the bout between Hendricks vs Kampmann is for the #1 contender shot or not?

When you take into account how much fluctuation goes on in the rankings with injuries and medical suspensions and whatnot, I think that they've given up trying to push top guys in TUF. That and they're so moody and unpredictable. How many series have we seen now where the coaches didn't even end up fighting? That's a hell of a lot of wasted promo money.

This Saturday is UFC on Fox - Shogun vs. Vera, this fight card holds the future as far as title shots go for the Light-Heavyweight Division that is. Dana White has publicly stated "When the fans speak, we listen. So whoever scores the best win, whoever gets the fans excited by going out there on Saturday and looking the most impressive, he will get the winner of Jones vs. Henderson. It is down to what these four guys do Saturday night in the Octagon. Winning isn’t enough, they’ve got to win impressively. Any one of these four fighters can take things into their own hands and make a title shot happen.” In this statement, Dana is talking about these four fighters:

1. Shogun Rua
2. Brandon Vera
3. Loyoto Machida
4. Ryan Bader

All of these fighters have great striking and wrestling/submission and ground & pound skills. Dana and the fans don't want a point decision victory, NO - he and we are looking for a very impressive and decisive finish to these fights. The upcoming fight between Dan Henderson and Jon Jones should be a great fight, and the UFC is looking to follow it up with another great Title fight. So my question to all of you is; who do you think will earn the title shot, and why? Personally I'd like to see some new blood in the title hunt with either Vera or Bader as each has worked their butts' off to get here. However I can see Rua getting the shot as he was impressive in his quick knockout of Forrest Griffin in his last fight.

He is my guy!!

I got in to UFC because of his first fight with Shogun and his been my favourite since, even though he keeps on loosing now :(... He would've knocked the fuck out off Rampage if the stupid fight wasn't 3 rounds.

Machida vs. Jones could be a very interesting fight indeed. Machida can strike very well and his Jiu-Jitsu and submission skills are good as well, it's surprising to me that most fighters in the UFC look past this guy alot. This is a mistake that Rampage made, I hope Bader doesn't make that same mistake and we get a fight of the year candidate.

That's a dream match we all want to see, but most likely never will. As far as tonights UFC matches go, it looks to be a pretty good card:

MAIN CARD (FOX)

Light Heavyweight: Mauricio "Shogun" Rua vs. Brandon Vera

Light Heavyweight: Lyoto Machida vs. Ryan Bader

Lightweight: Joe Lauzon vs. Jamie Varner

Welterweight: Mike Swick vs. DaMarques Johnson

PRELIMINARY CARD (FUEL TV)

Featherweight: Cole Miller vs. Nam Phan

Light Heavyweight: Phil Davis vs. Wagner Prado

Featherweight: Josh Grispi vs. Rani Yahya

Heavyweight: Phil De Fries vs. Oli Thompson

Featherweight: Manvel Gamburyan vs. Michihiro Omigawa

Flyweight: John Moraga vs. Ulysses Gomez

It should be an entertaining night for UFC fights. (The preceding fight card was made possible from fightline.com.)

Not with this one, it seems that we get more people to join on the PPV ones, otherwise there would be a contest about every two weeks. If you can get enough people to agree to join in on these free UFC events, then PM me and I'll set up the contest.

Looks like Machida will get the title shot against Jones or Henderson. Since several people have voiced that they want to have contests for these, I will start having them again. UFC president Dana White declared after tonight's fights on Fox that it was Machida who would get the next title shot. Anyways, here are the results of UFC on Fox 4:

Main Card Results:

* Shogun Rua won by TKO in Round 4
* Lyoto Machida won by KO in Round 2
* Joe Lauzon won by Submission (Triangle Choke) in Round 3
* Mike Swick won by KO in Round 2

[Joe Lauzon vs. Jamie Varner won Fight of the Night Bonus] [Joe Lauzon won Submission of the Night Bonus]

Preliminary Card Results:

* Nam Phan won by Split Decision in Round 3
* Phil Davis vs. Wagner Prado ended in a No Contest @ 1:28 of Round 1 due to an accidental eye-poke.
* Rani Yahya won by Submission (North-South Choke) in Round 1
* Phil De Fries won by Submission (Rear Naked Choke - called a Face Crank) in Round 2
* Manny Gamburyan won by Unanimous Decision in Round 3
* John Moraga won by KO in Round 1

Tell me about it! At least it won't affect Prado's record.

I would've like to see Shogun get the title shot though since he took & dealt out a lot of punishment and it ended in a championship round. Machida's fight bored me until the KO.

I'm just hating on him cos the mothafuka always winning.

But the way talks, mannerism etc is just all boring to me. I understand it's the way of the fighters honour and he shows respect blah blah blah but I want more excitement from this guy. But main reason is that he's always winning :p, I'm a man of tight fights, not dominance like he shows. Even though it's not his fault I preferred it when guys like Griffin and Bonner where slugging it out.

The Strikeforce Rousey fight will be awesome, and BFC 73 Featherweight fight should be as well. Also UFC 150's card looks pretty good as there are some interesting match ups that could shake things up inside the UFC. Herman vs. Shields is one of those and Edgar vs. Henderson will be a great fight as well, don't forget about Okami either as he's full of surprises.

Chael Sonnen vs Forrest Griffin II set for December 29th. Yes, I said part II as they have fought before with Griffin winning by submission. Chael is moving up to 205. I see Chael winning this one and Forrest retiring after this fight. To me it just doesn'et seem like he has it anymore.

If Dan Henderson (http://www.fightline.com/fl/profiles/109/dan-henderson/) (29-8) has his way, he plans to defeat Jon Jones (http://www.fightline.com/fl/profiles/216/jon-jones/) (16-1) without leaving any hesitation in the fans mind who won the fight."With Jon Jones, I prepare on winning every round," said Henderson. "I want to make sure I win every round so there is no question."
While Henderson looks to dominate every round, if the time is right, he knows he can end the fight early.
"If I can hit him in the right spot, at the right time, and finish him that's even better," said Henderson.
With the exception of a DQ lose, Jones is undefeated in his MMA career. He won the UFC (http://www.fightline.com/fl/news/ufc-news/) Light Heavyweight Championship in 2011 and has defended it successfully three times, all against former champions. Henderson is on a four fight win streak and looks to win his first UFC championship.
"I don't plan on wasting this opportunity and making sure I come out on top no matter what it takes," said Henderson. "I know I can beat anybody out there if I perform the way I can."
Jones vs. Henderson takes place September 1 at UFC 151.

So what do you think? Can Dan Henderson pull it off as planned? Or does Jon Jones put Hendo to sleep? We'll find out for sure on September 1st, 2012 however if I had to choose right now, I'd say Jones gets the win via submission.

Isn't Hendo on the downside of his career? Not that that discounts him from winning.

Yeah Hendo's been around quite awhile now and he's close to retiring and going to the UFC/MMA Hall of Fame. If he loses to Jones, then I expect his retirement to happen sooner then expected. However if Hendo wins, then he may be around awhile longer. Either way Hendo is one of the greats in this business and shouldn't be taken lightly at any age. The guy has phenomenal KO power and can grapple as well.

PS: Rob, that sig of yours is giving me nightmares.

I would never count out Hendo. He's in great physical shape just like Randy Couture and Couture is 5 years older then Hendo. After Shields dominated him everyone thought Hendo was done, washed up. He rebounded with some big wins including one big win over some people's greatest fighter ever in Fedor. And he just had one helluva fight against Rua. He stands a chance but it's real slim if you ask me. I'm picking Jones to win via 3rd round TKO.

Unfortunately, the only ones with anything to gain here are the fans. Either way Dana/UFC loses if Silva and Jones meet. Sure, they'll make big money but someone will lose and that will spell the beginning of the end for at least on UFC cash cow. A cow that they can effectively keep milking for a lot longer if fed guys that probably won't beat them. But when it comes to Silva, Jones and GSP - it'd be like killing the goose that lays the golden egg for it's meat. Fights like this happen in the twilight of careers now.....UFC has changed in that regard.

Cash cows are cows for a reason, they have to be milked the shit out of with the share they have in the market. Silva has had too many of these fights where he's basically fed jobbers for a PPV to have decent amount of buyrates, fans are getting restless and he needs to be put in a fight with GSP or Jones. There's too much money and potential growth for UFC to keep these guys apart for any longer. I mean they've talked about putting GSP/Silva for like fucking 2 years now, it's always let him beat this guy and we'll see what happens next.

Two major injuries reported yesterday.

1. Shane Carwin blew his knee and will not be able to fight Roy Nelson. A new opponent for Nelson will be named soon.

2. Gray Maynard is injured and will not be able to fight Joe Lauzon. A new opponent has been named for Joe Lauzon and it's going to be Jim Miller.
Maynard vs Miller sounds a better fight than Maynard vs Lauzon IMO.

Both are intriguing fights. I was looking foward to Maynard/Lauzon because of Maynard's wrestling against Lauzon's crazy BJJ skills from the ground. Miller/Lauzon should be equally as good though.

If anything I would've thought they would give him someone tougher because it's no secret Dana hates this guy. He's stated so before even TUF season in which Nelson won. Dana doesn't like his attitude or look one bit. He's entertaining to me and he's got one helluva chin and has that no quit attitude but he does some of the dumbest things imaginable.

Nah seriously the guy is a Jerk Dana really hates him.He doesn't even care about his fighters he doesn't train them well and they fucking hate him.He picks fight with silly ways like who has the biggest straw or something like that. And when they lose a fight he is saying to them that its their fault that they lost because they don't listen to him. Also he's keep saying and he put that thought in the fighters mind that they don't have to win by KO or submission or to be impressive, they just have to win.And Dana really hates him for that

I used to think Dana was one cool cat until I read Randy Couture's book and he gives an insight to what Dana is really like. The amount of times Dana and Zuffa tried to screw Randy was unbelievable only to turn around later and kiss his ass. Why? Because he kept winning when they didn't think or want him to. And he wouldn't be tamed by them. So, y'know, Dana is VERY two faced

Nick Diaz is one of the most entertaining fighters and personalities in all of the sport. Even though dude has some obvious mental issues, I think things would be pretty dull without overly-sensitive thugs like him around.

I'm all for Diaz/Condit 2 provided Condit doesn't spend this fight running around again making it hard for a several bong-hits-deep Diaz to catch him.

I know you're a Diaz fan Ape. And while the guy admittedly is a personality in a sport that is surprisingly lacking in true entertaining personalities, if you can believe it. Considering how many fighters there are you'd think there'd be more than just the handful there are - the Diaz's, the Sonnens, the Ortiz's - guys who can actually also happen to entertain with their hands too. Unfortunately it seems that other personalities in MMA, tend to be fly by night-ers or not-at-all-ers, like Mayhem Miller or Josh Koscheck.

In a sport where there are more "nice guys" than you can poke a stick at - Junior Dos Santos, GSP, Anderson Silva - I admit it's much more entertaining when there is a bit more meat to their character. But Diaz just rubs me wrong for some reason. I have always felt that after having such a troubled upbringing he'd be more relaxed and appreciative of his current fortunes. But no, the dude seems to get angrier every time I see him!

That's part of what makes him so hilarious, imo. He could beat GSP for his title and he'd still somehow find something to get pissed about.

"Wearing shiny belts is for fucking gay people, man."

Besides, the way I look at it, him and his brother being gainfully employed in MMA is keeping gas station cash registers in Stockton just a little bit safer.

But I remember once, at my home in Miami, I believe it was in ’96 or’97, Van Damme was there with Seagal, Willis, Schwarzenegger, Shaquille O’Neal, Don Johnson and Madonna… it was a heck of a party. Van Damme was tired of Seagal saying he could kick his ass and went right up to him and offered him the chance to step outside so he could wipe the floor with him, or should I say wipe the backyard with him. Seagal made some excuse and left. His destination was some Ocean Drive nightclub in Miami. Van Damme, who was completely berserk, tracked him down and again offered him a fight, and again Seagal pulled a Houdini. Who would win? I have to say I believe Van Damme was just too strong and Seagal wanted no part of it. That’s just my opinion.

Here's more Seagal goodness:

LeBell was working as a fight coordinator on Out for Justice. Seagal had told everyone that due to his Aikido training, no one could choke him out. When word got around to the 58-year-old LeBell, he proceeded to not only choke Seagal out, but also manipulate a pressure point on the star’s neck, causing him to wet his pants in front of the cast and crew.

I actually started working on a script loosely based on the so-called "life" of Seagal called White Dragon: The Positively True and Not At All Embellished Legend of Mike Albatross, and much of it is taken from stories and excerpts like this that I've come across over the years.

One of my favorite Seagal claims is that he was so deep in the CIA that the CIA didn't even know he was working for them. Oh, and that Above The Law was autobiographical.

There's also this bit about the mystical white dog that saved his life:

One day, while Steven Seagal was enjoying his early Aikido years in Japan, a strange white dog approached him.

As the dog approached, Steven Seagal experienced a powerful sensation - a feeling that he had known the strange white dog forever.

After keeping the dog for a few days, the white dog began barking - warning Steven Seagal that his Aikido dojo was on fire. Steven Seagal quickly summoned help to put out the fire.

After that he never saw the dog again.

The best part of this is that it's widely suspected that Seagal set the fire himself in order to collect the insurance money. Dude is fucking cray cray.

Here's a golden nugget involving Mr. Perfect:

As I heard it, back when he was still somewhat popular, Seagal was at an airport, Mr Perfect (aka Curt Hennig) was at the same airport, spotted Segal and asked him for an autograph. A bunch of people gathered around, what with the famous movie star and the famous wrestler being together, and Seagal thought it would be funny to try to make himself look big. After the autograph he shook Hennig's hand, and then tried some form of aikido wristlock, joking that he was 'better than Perfect'. Hennig, being a very athletic 6' 5" professional wrestler and former All American, squeezed Seagal's hand as hard as he could, causing the actor to fall to his knees in pain. Seagal quickly got up and left, and the gathered folks gave Hennig a cheer.

Oh, yeah, what you're talking about was the disgruntled former personal assistant who claimed that Seagal was running a harem of Russian prostitutes and trafficking women into the states for sex purposes. She ended up dropping her civil case and never even bothered pursuing any criminal charges.

The tank incident involved Seagal trying to break up a cock-fighting ring with notorious Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio (elite level shithead). It was being filmed for his ridiculous reality series, and the subsequent legal entanglements from the overkill of the "operation", as well as the death of the suspects's dog, have prevented the third season from ever airing (as most of the footage is now considered evidence).

No, you're thinking of Hard to Kill. Above The Law (which goes by Nico in some territories) is Seagal's debut movie, and it's the one where he's a Chicago detective/ex-CIA operative who uncovers a drug ring being orchestrated by the same CIA jerkwad he butted heads with back in Vietnam. Sharon Stone plays his wife and Pam Grier plays his partner.

Yeah I'm with you now. They were much watched movies in my teens so I get them confused. The movie goes by both titles here - Nico:Above The Law. Hey what the hell was it with TV and movies in the 80's - everything has a bloody Vietnam reference! From the looks of things, she might have had to so more than take her top off. I thought I recalled her from one of the US movies. I've had a few pics of him playing guitar and album covers of his saved to my comp since they provide me with some hearty laugh time. So, what was his playing/music like?
I'm not even going to lie, he's a real-deal blues-man. Dude can play the hell out of a guitar. Unfortunately, though, he writes some of the most painfully embarrassing lyrics ever committed to song. And the faces he makes while playing? Holy. Shit. It's like a nonstop laughapalooza. I basically went with a couple of friends for the comedic value, and it did not disappoint ("Casey! Ryback!")

But, yeah. Check out some of his lyrics:

Talk To My Ass

I woke up this mornin' and I asked my baby to fix me some scrambled eggs

I woke up this mornin' and I asked my baby to fix me some scrambled eggs
Well she looked at me kinda surprised
And she said baby, you got your own two pair a legs

I went to bed last night, I tried to give my baby some love
I went to bed last night, I tried to give my baby some love
Well she looked at me kinda surprised and she said
Baby you got your own two pair a hands
but you ain't got no glove

But thank you
for reminding me I got my own two pair of legs
oh and thank you
for reminding me I got my own two hands
but it seem like I got a new set of plans
I cant have no compromise
I hate to break it to you
but I got my own two pair a eyes

I went down to see my mama
and I told my mama my situation
she said son it sound like you need some excavation in your habitation
she said love goin' to have to have some give and take
if you can't have that you gonna have nothing but heart break

I went back home last night
I told my baby to get on up the road

Well she looked at me kinda surprised
Suddenly she not so cold
I told her I cant have no more sass
and from now on she can talk to my ass

If we're to believe UFC President Dana White, Middleweight Champion Anderson Silva wants a new contract from the promotion. But he doesn't want a run-of-the-mill four or five fight deal. He wants 10 -- count 'em -- 10 more fights.

This weekend is going to be hectic as there WILL be 2 Prediction Contests for the UFC back to back. I normally don't do more than 1 for a weekend, but seeing as there are only 3 left this year and 2 of them 3 are on the same week I'll make an exception. I'll post the first contest for UFC on FX 6: "TUF Smashes": Sotiropoulos vs. Pearson (http://mmajunkie.com/events/detail/ufc-on-fx-6-sotiropoulos-vs-pearson) later today or tomorrow morning, which takes place on Friday, Dec. 14, 2012. Then on Thursday or Friday morning I'll post the second contest for The Ultimate Fighter 16 Finale (http://mmajunkie.com/events/detail/the-ultimate-fighter-16-finale) which takes place on Saturday, Dec. 15, 2012.

Hopefully having two contests in one weekend won't become habit forming as I usually don't do this, but wanted to let everyone know what to expect before hand. Remember to predict on each.

Thank You

Not taking anything from Cain, but that did not seem like the same Junior we all know and love. It was like someone stomped him in the nuts before the fight started.

Robstar
12-30-2012, 05:04 AM
He seemed different before the fight. In any case, Cain deserved that win. And it reminded me - as much as I loved Lesnar as a fighter, he would never have been able to grind out 5 rounds. These guys barely could. The 5 rounder really tests the heavyweights.

TheMadThinker
12-30-2012, 05:43 AM
Yeah, even cardio Cain admitted that five rounds tested his limits. he definitely deserved the win. Junior's total lack of aggression boggles my mind, but I guess getting punched in the jaw early on could have had something to do with it. Not to mention that all the take downs probably destroyed his confidence.

Here's a summary of some misc. UFC news from the past few days.

1. Anderson Silva has signed a 10 fight deal with the UFC.

2. Michael Bisping should he defeat Vitor Belfort will in fact get the next shot at Anderson Silva's middleweight title.

3. Fabricio Werdrum should he defeat Big Nog next year will get a shot at the heavyweight title.

4. Daniel Cormier and Gilbert Melendez both could earn immediate shots at UFC titles when making the jump to the UFC.

5. Dana says Nate Marquardt most likely will be fighting in the UFC octagon again.

Rumor has it that George Roop is out, Yuri Alcantara now fights Pedro Nobre at UFC on FX 7. Also in the news, the new TUF 17 starts January 22 on FX @ 8 pm ET, the team captains are: Team Jon Jones and Team Chael Sonnen.

This will be one heck of a good TUF season.

It's official, the UFC injury bug has struck again! George Roop who was filling in for Johnny Eduardo has been forced to withdraw, giving Yuri Alcantara his third fighter to prepare for in one Pedro Nobre (14-1-2 MMA, 0-0 UFC) who is now the fill in for Roop. Also in the news, a torn bicep has forced Canadian Roger Hollett out of a planned appearance at next week's UFC on FX 7 event, and Wagner Prado (8-1 MMA, 0-1 UFC) now reportedly meets UFC newcomer Ildemar Alcantara (17-5 MMA, 0-0 UFC) @ 205 Lbs, Hollett is expected to be cleared to fight again in April. That being said, a training injury has knocked Justin Salas (10-4 MMA, 1-1 UFC) out of a preliminary-card fight against Edson Barboza (10-1 MMA, 4-1 UFC) at "UFC on FX 7: Belfort vs. Bisping" later this month. Stepping in for Salas is UFC newcomer Lucas Martins (11-0 MMA, 0-0 UFC).

In other news, following a recent interview jibe between Bisping and Hector Lombard, Hector has now thrown his name in the hat for Dana to call if Vitor Belfort cannot compete. "I would love to fight Michael Bisping – he's said a lot of things about me lately and I want to settle it in the Octagon," Lombard said. If Belfort doesn't get hurt in preparation for the bout, Lombard said he'll want to meet the winner. However Bisping is lobbying hard for a title shot and it's yet to be seen if a win on January 19th will earn him one.

Following Saturday's Strikeforce finale, the UFC continued to make official some of the names who will be making the migration from a now-defunct promotion to the world's leading MMA organization. Officials on Tuesday's edition of "UFC Tonight" on FUEL TV announced a big list of the fighters who now have homes in the UFC. The list, of course, includes champions, former champions and former title challengers. Other announcements may be forthcoming, but Tuesday's full list of UFC announcements for former Strikeforce fighters coming to the UFC includes:

LIGHT HEAVYWEIGHT

__________________________

Notable names not yet announced by the UFC as coming over include heavyweight Josh Barnett, who has had a contentious past with the promotion and President Dana White. (PRESS RELEASE) -- LOS ANGELES (Jan. 9, 2013) – Tuesdays just got TUF™. On January 22, some of the world’s most talented and determined mixed martial artists will face-off in the most grueling sports tournament on television. Watch as 28 mixed martial arts prospects battle for a coveted spot on the new season of The Ultimate Fighter®, which begins with a special two-hour premiere airing at 8 p.m. ET/PT on FX.

The Ultimate Fighter, the Ultimate Fighting Championship®’s long-running reality television series, will run for 13 weeks and will culminate in a three-hour finale, live from the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, Nev. Unlike previous seasons on FX, the one-hour broadcast will now be shown on Tuesday nights at its new regularly scheduled timeslot of 9 p.m. ET/PT.

The 14 successful combatants will be divided into two teams, which will be coached by two of the fiercest rivals in all of sport. UFC® light heavyweight champion and MMA superstar, Jon “Bones” Jones will captain one team, while the controversial and charismatic challenger Chael Sonnen will lead the second team into battle in this, the 17th installment of the series.

The coaches will then collide for the light heavyweight title on Saturday, April 27, at UFC® 159: JONES vs. SONNEN at the Prudential Center in Newark, N.J.

Not surprisingly, both Jones and Sonnen will be bringing their trademark self-confidence into their stints as coaches this season on The Ultimate Fighter.

“I thought it would be a good way to share myself with the sport of MMA,” Jones said. “I embrace the role.”

Said Sonnen: “The hottest show on FX is being graced with the greatest talent God ever made: Chael P. Sonnen.’’

The list of finalists in the middleweight (185 pounds) division was trimmed from more than 250 applicant athletes. The fighters - all seeking the opportunity of a lifetime and a six-figure contract from the Ultimate Fighting Championship - hail from the United States, Australia, England and Sweden.

“The quality of guys we have this season in unbelievable,” said UFC President Dana White. “From the fights to get into the house, to every single fight this season, I think the talent is some of the best I’ve ever seen on this show. We’re going to end up with some really good guys in the 185-pound division.”

“The production value has increased, the talent level is at an all-time high, and we have two of the most dynamic personalities in all of the UFC as our coaches,” said Chuck Saftler, EVP of FX Networks. “I’m extremely excited about this season of The Ultimate Fighter and truly believe this could be the show’s best season yet.”

On Jan. 22, the season will launch with 14 gripping elimination scraps. Those victorious in the opening round, or “Fight In”, become official cast members and earn their place in The Ultimate Fighter house in Las Vegas. The winners will be drafted into opposing teams of seven by Jones and Sonnen. Thereafter, cameras will document their activity before and after their training and fights during the season.

Each episode’s winners will advance in the single-elimination tournament until one is crowned The Ultimate Fighter.

The competitors are:

Also in the news today there is going to be a Dream Super Fight that is taking place on Aug 3 of this year. Two of the most dynamic strikers in all of mixed martial arts will meet Aug. 3 as Anthony Pettis (16-2 MMA, 3-1 UFC) is dropping from lightweight to 145 pounds to challenge current champion Jose Aldo (22-1 MMA, 4-0 UFC) for the UFC featherweight title. UFC President Dana White has already booked the fight and had this to say:

"Two of the baddest dudes in the fight business are going to fight at 145 pounds," White said. "These guys are two of the most amazing, gravity-defying athletes in the sport. I am so pumped for this fight."

White went on to say the company currently is seeking a venue for the as-yet-unannounced event and that sites in Texas, Chicago, Las Vegas and Rio de Janeiro are all under consideration. Aldo vs. Pettis is expected to headline the card. Anthony Pettis had a say in this decision as he stated:

"Aldo is a tremendous fighter," Pettis said. "I have all the respect in the world for his skills. I just want to be one of the best in the world, and the only way to do that is to beat the best."

And:

"I wouldn't call him out if I didn't really feel confident I could beat him," Pettis said.

Pettis was expected to challenge for the UFC lightweight title later this year against the winner of an April championship bout between current champ Henderson and Strikeforce import Gilbert Melendez. However, the Milwaukee native said he wasn't comfortable waiting around and instead will now face one of the sport's top pound-for-pound fighters.

"It's a superfight, and I want to be a part of these fights," Pettis said.

Dana White said Pettis texted him following the pay-per-view card's main event, which saw Jose Aldo outpoint ex-lightweight champ Frankie Edgar by scores of 49-46, 49-46, 48-47. Pettis wanted to drop to featherweight to challenge the featherweight champ, who's now defended his belt four times. UFC featherweight Ricardo Lamas (13-2 MMA, 4-0 UFC) is not very happy with this news as he tweeted:

"I should be next in line for that shot at Aldo"

"I'm kind of sitting here like, 'What am I, a mirage?' That's exactly what I tweeted Dana White, actually," Lamas said.
"I'm just sitting here trying to figure out where I fit in in all of this."

Today, Lamas stressed he would wait for Aldo for six months if asked to by the UFC, or he would take the title shot in three months. He also said he would take a main event or co-main event if the promotion decided to skip over him. But that's clearly not what he thinks is the right thing to do. At featherweight, he should be first.

"I've put in the work at 145 pounds," Lamas said.
"I've done everything I need to do, and I should be next in line for that shot."

Yet the idea of Pettis vs Aldo was intriguing enough to White that he entertained the idea of instead putting Lamas in a fight with Chan Sung Jung. He clarified that "The Korean Zombie" was injured and could be out until spring, but he appeared open to the prospect of giving another standout lightweight an immediate featherweight title shot.

Really looking foward to Aldo vs Pettis. I personally think Pettis has a pretty good chance at beating Aldo.

http://vendettafighter.com/news/cris-cyborg-santos-has-asked-to-be-released-from-her-ufc-contract/

Looks like we may never get to see Rousey vs Cyborg now. And it appears Dana jumped the gun with the way he introduced the women's division. Only 2 female fighters are signed as of right now. Not sure what his plan is but he's gonna have to come up with something quick as it's looking like a flop right now.

UFC makes it's return to London this Saturday with UFC on Fuel TV 7: Barao vs. McDonald. The event takes place @ Wembley Arena which has a seating capacity of 12,500. This marks the first of UFC's visits to England for the year 2013. If you happen to be in the area I would suggest to try to make it to the event. The last time the UFC was in England was @ UFC on Fuel TV 5 this last September.

I will be posting the UFC Contest within the next day or so. Keep watching the MMA section of the forum for the Contest and any updates.

It will be interesting to see Cain vs Bigfoot 2, though I can't imagine the outcome being much different. JDS/Overeem is interesting, I'm looking forward to seeing how JDS comes back.

Yeah the way Cain looked against JDS, I can't imagine Bigfoot beating him but stranger things have happened I guess.

As for JDS, I see him knocking out Reem.

Isn't welterweight the most stacked division in the UFC? Half the guys in the top 10 aren't ever going to make top 2 - which the same can be said for most divisions

Pretty much. The other really stacked division is lightweight, that's why you see a lot of fighters dropping to 145 like Edgar and Guida among others.
