When did you discover that wrestling was fake? for me i was always told it was but never wanted to believe ot (as you dont at the age of 5!) but as you grow up you see it must be. Do you get the same thrill as you did watching it aswell?

My Dad told my brother and I, when we were very young that wrestling was fake. I might have been 9 or 10.

I don't think fake is the right word. Scripted would be better, because everything they do in the ring isn't fake. They still take bumps and bruises.

Not just that. The behind-the-scenes effects are worse than the bruises. They all suffer a lot by taking on too many pain killers, muscle relaxers, not seeing their families and especially their kids, and even face death the way Owen Hart, Eddie Guerrero and Lance Cade have.

i acutally hate the word fake in wrestling aswell i agree with a previous post scripted is better people diss on wrestling and say its fake yet you get everyone going to a film or a play etc and they never say thats fake. trying to explain to my friends that arent wrestling fans cause they just say it and dont understand what wrestlersgo through etc

Didn't start watching until I was a young teen, so I already knew it wasn't "Real". However those thought were solidified when I saw some guy get thrown 16 feet off a cage onto a table.

When I was watching some vids in Youtube I saw Homicide doing a body kick on Christopher Daniels but it was an air kick and it never connected. Also when Scott Steiner picked up Chirstian Cage and was about to hit him on the apron but he didn't do it since Christian hit himself. xD

Lol fake/scripted whatever you wanna call it. I don't think I accepted it at any point. I just kind of became an unsaid understanding that grew into my psyche more and more through my early teen years. I used to show people pictures of the bloody matches like "SEE I TOLD YOU IT WAS REAL!!". I was one of those kids that just had to defend the realism at every turn. Surprisingly, during my teen years I grew to love wrestling even after I accepted that it was fake. It was still fun to watch. After the WWE vs WCW days, my love fell off and I stopped watching. Years later I'm back and loving it again!

That's what you get for waiting for Steiner to actually get to the move. Christain did the right thing - you can't blame him for rushing to get to the end of any match with Slow Steiner.

I must have been @ 12 or 13 when I found out. Before that I used to watch Andre(back when his hair was long) and cringe when he "beat" people up. I thought it was so violent! Little did I know I would witness much more violent in ring shenanigans after I'd realised. There was a time also when I wondered if promotions like ECW finally got fed up with the "fake" tag and took it back to real fighting, which I guess they sort of did

I was about 6 years old; My dad had just purchased one of the fancy new VCRs that had slow-motion technology. For kicks he decided to show me how it worked, by taping an episode of Superstars or whatever the hell it was at that point. Anyways, long story short, we showed me The Million Dollar Man giving a drop kick to I think the British Bulldog. I got to see how his feet never touched the other wrestler despite full extension. Of course, the fall occurred as it should, and that's when my dad proceeded to give me "the talk" :P ...Somehow I still bought into the idea Santa Claus though, till about 8... figure that one out :P

Scott Steiner vs The English Language

OMG, that is priceless. The greatest battle of his career (aside from some suspect hairstyling decisions) and he LOST!

Good origional question. I still believe it's real.

I always thought there wasn't something 'quite right' about what was going on. I read an article in the old WWF magazine about Razor Ramon growing up on the streets and Savage also had some pictures in it with a surf board and various women. I just started to think 'this can't be real' and then when Abe 'knuckleball' Scwarz came on the scene, i new it was totally gimmicked.

I agree with the majority of posters though, fake isn't the word to be used, scripted is much better.

When I saw a MMA fight, then compared with the wrestling and knew that he had not actually make those moves, but more like wrestling because admiromais the spectacle and not the fight itself.

I guess I was always aware that it wasn't "real" so to speak, anyone older than me often took great pleasure in making sure I knew it wasn't real, however while I know they bump like crazy for each other and every move done takes both people to make it work I always refrain from calling it fake, bumping like crazy isn't fake, scripted and pre-dertermined most definitely, but never fake

SilverGhost

Wrestling is real, just scripted. The botches here that we showed shows the funny part of the "fakes". Homicide used the force when kicking Daniels in the gut.

This topic reminds me of Kenny Anderson's shirt "Pro Wrestling is real, it's people who are fake"

so true, None of my friends like wrestling and when ever i talk about it they say its fake, It's not, ok everything is scripted and some of the moves clearly miss but you cant tell me jumping on to the out side and landing on the concrete is fake, i still watch today and think F*** that, you wouldn't catch me doing that.

The 1st time I discovered wrestling was fake was when my Grandpa bought me my first wrestling game for the PS1. It was Smackdown 2: Know Your Role. Well, before he let me play it he told me that it was 'pretend' but the injuries involved were VERY real. My Grandpa used to wrestle at indy events back when he was just a teen an early adult. He picked it up after he got out of the Orphanage. The whole family knew of his wrestling background an I believed him when he told me. Over-time the wrestling promotions started to slip up an the talent botched a shit load of moves.

I miss you Grandpa.

I'm glad that you found your way home to Grandma in 09. She waited 10 years for your ass. XD
