Skyrim, Mass Effect, Bioshock, Infamous, Dragon Age

that's all the ones I can think of atm, personally I usually don't play online, and I don't play shooters or most sports games.

Single Player campaigns > Multiplayer.

Fact.

I've never really been one for online gaming!

I think shooters would still be as prominent, if the whole online thing never took off!

Fact.

you don´t need ultimate team iin fifa it´s just a way to get more money for ea

Exactly. Sports, fighting, Shooters (although multiplayer abilities have made it stupidly big), driving and other genres all did well before Xbox Live or PSN network or Steam for examples.

I'm not so sure! I enjoyed nothing more than getting a bunch of mates round, having Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat and Tekken tournaments, getting pissed and having a laugh! I prefer to have my mates there, than over a wire!! That's the difference for me!!

I think fighters would continue along fine, they are more for having people over to your house to play anyway

The only game I play online is Gears of War 3, I much prefer single player stories. Im not a big FPS fan, but I do enjoy going through the Halo games on Legendary in co-op with my mates, online I wont even touch.

Surely that's only 6+ years ago for most of us (assuming none of us PC-gamed much or had xbox live or anything)?

Lot of golden games in the PS2/Gamecube/xbox era and online wasn't so big/essential, so the market was hella different in a sense (i.e. no yearly COD installments).
I only really play online with friends tbh. Also I get annoyed if a game does have co-op, but not split screen (Goddamnit saints row).

Shooterwise, heck, who didn't love getting a few friends over for some Goldeneye(Oh how cliché) or Halo2? And yeah I'd honestly have thought fighting games were just as good or better when you could get friends round and slaughter them all the time. Heck, I didn't even like fighting games but loved playing Soul calibur at my friend's. UNLESS, of course, you're after the competitive edge on all this, in which online gaming is fantastic because of constantly different opponents.

I guess the debate settles into what sort of gamer you are:
Singleplayer/multiplayer
and if multiplayer
chilling with friends/competition.
